Enoch Powell, the Conservative anti-immigrant firebrand, is being investigated as an alleged member of a claimed Westminster paedophile network after his name was supplied to police by a senior Anglican bishop.

It's like the British government in the '70s and 80s was some sort of pedophile Illuminati-Establishment conspiracy...

150? Maybe in an middle class area, but let's take it. For a single person:

14 000 - 7200 rent = 6 800
55 (food) p/w x 12 months = 2640 = 4 160 left
1200 for Gas & Electricity = 2 960 left
400 for Water = 2 560 left

14 000 - 10 600 allowance = 3400 - 680 (Basic 20%) = 1 880 left
Taking my borough's band A council tax (955 p/a) = 925 left and all basic necessities for life are covered

You will have very little money left over for luxuries, but to call it poverty is just out of touch with reality. You're not going to be freezing in your home, starving 12 - 18 with no water every weekend. Material poverty, perhaps. But 14k p/a is not poverty.

Depending on your priorities, you will still be able to afford telecommunications and probably an insurance of some kind.

For some reason, you assume that everyone is single, that they don't drive, that they don't basically have to have a phone for work (or to get work), and any number of other factors. Transport, for example - in my case, is about £2500 a year.

And as for the idea that £150 is 'middle class' - unless you're a student living in someone's spare bedroom, not really. You just appear to have no idea of what working families in the UK are actually spending - and it sounds like it's deliberate, because you've got an argument you want to make, and you're having to fit 'facts' to it.

By way of an idea of how ridiculous his idea is: I live in a house shared with several others in a very dodgy region of Coventry, and my rent is a shade over £150/week.

This week's news: Richard III given Christian burial; senior clergyman accuses former politician of Satanism and sexual deviancy; Caliphate publicly beheads Shia Muslims.

"Why do you study medieval history?", they said. "Isn't modern history more relevant today?", they said.

I'm fascinated to find that you can now predict whether someone's a paedophile by their political views.

Numbers?
How many, approx room size, bills included?

Sorry to pry, but even for private renting, £150 a week sounds like a lot for shared living.

Considering that (as far as I know) the only case that has actually been confirmed is Cyril Smith, I wouldn't go counting any chickens, myself. As for the allegations that have yet to be investigated, here's a few for balance.

Why doesn't it surprise you? I mean up until now the only thing that suggested Enoch Powell was a pedophile was that he was a male public figure from the 60's and 70's - admittedly a frightening number of people in this category are!

Quickly hunted down the report I saw a couple of years ago that cited shared rents in the capital at about £150 p.w., and rents almost everywhere except Ireland in the same sort of range.

Found it: http://www.nus.org.uk/Global/Campaigns/ ... %20WEB.pdf

(It IS a pdf)

Bear in mind, that was a couple of years ago, rents are now higher... and most people in the UK are NOT students renting single rooms.

I'm merely joking. Who knows if he was a pedophile, I just think that Powell was a prick. Calm down.

I find the chances of someone winning a majority low. But, it could happen. We still have more than a month until the election, anything could happen. Farage could overthrow Nicola Sturgeon and become dictator of Scotland, for all we know.

ANSWER THE FUCKING QUESTION

ANSWER THE FUCKING QUESTION

>being a thatcherite piece of shit and trying to weasel out of admitting it because you know it's political poison
>shitting over PFI and outsourcing in the NHS solely you get to whine about blair (a classic example of right for the wrong reasons)
>refusing to answer whether you want more private involvement in the NHS or privatization because you know its political poison
>using "i think we should it properly!", "i think we should be open to change!", "i'm just opening a debate!", "any party that says we should think differently is shut down" and literally every single phrase you can think of to signal that you basically support the idea of privatizing the NHS without having the balls to say it and give your supporters enough wiggle room to say "nah he totes loves the NHS tho..."
>not actually answering the fucking question
>seriously trying to pretend that your "france does it switzerland does it..." line isn't a statement of blatant support
>m-m-maybe the people with swiss bank accounts have swiss husbands!
>tolerate our intolerance!!!

Less by their political views, more by how much of a cunt they were.

Unlikely. Last time he came to Edinburgh, he got trapped in a pub. :P

I had a Labour party volunteer come to the door yesterday, and she asked who I was voting for.

I told her I didn't think it was any of her business.

Despite the fact I will likely be voting for that party come the General Election, I really don't like telling people who I plan to vote for. Not because I fear any reaction, I just dislike people asking.

I also regret not being more polite to her.

Oh, well.

Cracking.

All we need is more mention of the Illuminati, Freemasons and/or Knights Templar.

Hitler got rejected from art school and arrested after a pub brawl.
Getting trapped in a pub sounds like perfect motivation.
