There is a live feed on CBC.

http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/parliam ... -1.2808710

A soldier, standing guard, was shot by a gunman with a rifle at the War Memorial. The second guard fled. The gunman then went across the way to the Parliament buildings. It would've taken about 60-90 seconds to get there. Shots were then fired inside the central block. Reports estimate the shots between 30-50. There is no indication whether it was one or more shooters. There is a chance it ended there but there is no indication. The Prime Minister and the Tory caucus are safe. The MPs are safe as well. No other reports of injuries or deaths.

The NY Times wrote:OTTAWA — Multiple shots were fired within the halls of Parliament here on Wednesday morning, and police officers rushed to secure the building and move occupants to safety. At least one gunman was believed to be inside the massive building.

The identity of the gunman was not immediately clear, but a body, possibly that of a soldier, was seen slumped at the National War Memorial nearby. Medics later took him away in an ambulance.

Reuters reported that Prime Minister Stephen Harper had been inside the building but had left and was safe.

Journalists covering Parliament were ordered by police officers at gunpoint to lie on the floor in the foyer in front of the House of Commons, The Globe and Mail reported on its website. The Globe and Mail’s correspondent, Josh Wingrove, said in a series of Twitter posts that the hallways were filled with the smell of gunpowder.

At least 10 Royal Canadian Mounted Police squad cars converged on Parliament Hill’s Centre Block, and officers wearing bulletproof vests went into the complex.

The shootings in the heart of the normally placid Canadian capital came two days after two members of the Canadian armed forces were injured in a hit-and-run crash in a small Quebec city that the authorities considered an act of terrorism.

Probably, a soldier was also shot at the war memorial.

There are no other reported injuries other than the first soldier, who's been taken to hospital. There is no further indications on his condition.

Something similar could've happened in Australia.

Indeed. The National War Monument looks to be about a block from the Parliament building.

I honestly did not expect to hear about something like this happening in Canada of all places. I hope the soldier was only wounded and not killed, and that they make a recovery, and that no one else is harmed.

National War Memorial and the Centre Block of Parliament Hill.

There is no official briefing yet. It seems to indicate that the situation is ongoing. The gunman is still at large, based on reports within the last 15 minutes.

The reports of a strong smell of gunpowder in the building is ominous, though.

Watching the live stream - Police now suspect 2 or 3 shooters, with one now possibly shot.

That guy was killed by the police the same day. It seems safe to say he's not involved in today's incident.

According to witnesses, one had a 'long gun', another had a double-barreled shotgun.
