Two Christian ministers who own an Idaho wedding chapel were told they had to either perform same-sex weddings or face jail time and up to $1,000 in daily fines, according to a lawsuit filed Friday in federal court.

Alliance Defending Freedom is representing Donald and Evelyn Knapp, two ordained ministers who own the Hitching Post Wedding Chapel in Coeur d’Alene.

“Right now they are at risk of being prosecuted,” attorney Jeremy Tedesco told me. “The threat of enforcement is more than just credible.”

The wedding chapel is registered as a “religious corporation” limited to performing “one-man-one-woman marriages as defined by the Holy Bible.”

What say you?

My opinion:

I think that this is going to continue, unfortunately. I suspect churches will eventually be forced to provide same-sex weddings. The Constitution is largely being ignored at this point by our present government (local, state, and federal).

I think it's good. Finally, the government is putting equality into action. Does the OP have an opinion?

They should be sent to jail, and taught tolerance and the concept of the equality of all humans.

I'm surprised that Fox News did something that actually could have credibility.

Actually, never mind.

And they are supposed to allow same-sex marriage. Laws that have been passed allowing gay-marriage should be crystal clear at this point. Fines, yes, though Jail-time is undeserved.

Is the wedding chapel an operational church?

I don't think they should be arrested but maybe lose their legal authority to perform weddings if they refuse to comply.

They should be entitled to their own values and opinions, and no government should be forcing them to support or endorse gay marriage (which they would be doing by hosting gay weddings).

What is a religious "corporation"?

Religious institutions should have the right to refuse any practise or ceremony thereof which challenge their beliefs. That's the point of a religious institution, isn't it?

But it's not the point of a business. Hence my confusion. Those two shouldn't mix.

Equality should be enforced by the government.

Reeducation camps for the masses.

If equality is not respected by certain sections of society, they should be taught it.

I'm torn on this issue. I support same-sex marriage, and I dislike discrimination, but I also believe as a business owner you should not have to be told who your customers are, and I also believe in freedom to follow your religious beliefs.

I'll put my vote in as an "unsure."

I would apply the Supreme Court decision on Hobby Lobby to this case. Business owners can make religious decisions with regard to their property. Those that object to abortion, SSM, etc, should not be forced into it.

Yeah, my paddle.
It reports from the bottom of America, non-geographically of course, where nothing called intelligence is.

If you are going to use your nonprofit status to break the law then you are going to face some sort of charge. They knew this was coming, now they get to face the music. Follow the law.

No, but their business is. Humans run the business. Thus, they can make lawful decisions in regard to it. To provide a same-sex marriage would go against their consciences. That would be unfair.

That still treats the equality system as a full on joke by the Illuminati.

In other words, you've contradicted yourself.

The Tolerance paradox aye?

Anyway I fully support gay marriage but I do not support the forcing of religious establishments to preform such ceremonies. I'd suggest ether a program to give non-religious establishments the ability to preform marriage or finding a church that will preform such a wedding (I know some Episcopal churches preform the ceremonies)
