Going to be honest, didn't even know you could use garlic for that.

My only suggestion is moar calcium.

I take a lot of calcium as it is. I wonder if keratin is good for it. I know nails have it, but what if I need more? Hmm.

I mean, looking at the wikipedia article, just good nutrition are vital to nails. They're picky fuckers.

Your protein intake's pretty important to them, it seems - can discolour the nailbed, which I assume would lead to weaker nails by way of messing with your circulation.

Maybe I should just go to the doctor and see what can be done. Right?

Then I have Ebola, Chikungunya and cancer.

What Grim says is true, however, about nutrition and some deficiencies that can affect nails.

Yes, if cost isn't an issue.

I mean, I was assuming it was an idle question :P If your nails are really bad, then yes - it is possible for them to be symptomatic of serious nutrition deficiency. But afaik, it's pretty much unheard of for them to be your first sign of a serious issue. So it's not really an urgent issue, unless you think that aesthetically speaking, it's worth it.

Obviously, I don't know if you mean "my nails might not hold polish too well" or "my nails fell off again".

I know, and it sounds like pretty sensible advice.

I always find it amusing and a bit tragic when some people come on NSG, of all places, and ask for medical advice.

Now all I can think of is mashing garlic between two chunks of wood.

I know the brittleness is not due to dermatitis or psoriasis. But in the past year I've noticed that they're looking dull and brittle. They break easily and crack in places. There's also some lines down the enamel. I was told this is normal as I age but I don't know. The breaks usually happen along the area where these lines are at. Which is starting to concern me. I recently switched diets and perhaps that's exacerbating things until my body syncs up. I better get checked.

Ah, sorry, I wasn't meaning you.

I was more thinking of the times when Mods have to come in and close a thread that was specifically opened to seek advice.

Ah, like dating or depression? I know the latter sparked a controversy once.

I didn't mind the dating thread so much, although for much of the latter half it was rehashing or reminiscing.

I didn't think it was the concept they minded, either, rather than the execution after the discussions winded down - locked for off-topicness.

I wouldn't take too many supplements BTW, your body can only absorb so much. So unless you are trying to make very expensive pee you should lay off.

It's used to strengthen brittle nails. Most people tend to go under the daily recommended dosages for at least one vitamin with their daily dietary intake.

I'd probably prefer an excess.
