Anti-Islamic ads to appear on 100 NYC busses and subways...

The article wrote:Anti-Islamic adverts will begin appearing on a hundred New York City buses and at two subway entrances next week.

The six ads include an image of American journalist James Foley, just before he was beheaded, standing next to his masked executioner.

The ads are paid for by the American Freedom Defence Initiative run by anti-Islam blogger Pamela Geller. She says the campaign tells truths about Islam and Jihad that the US government and mainstream media ignore.

All the ads feature a disclaimer that says the viewpoints are not endorsed by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA).

Under a federal court ruling, the agency is required to run viewpoint ads. But the MTA requires a disclaimer.

The American Freedom Defence Initiative has posted ads on New York's transit system in the past that called enemies of Israel "savages".

This seems a bit extreme, doesn't it?
I get that IS is bad, but they surely don't think that encompasses all Muslims, right?

Some people can be so reactionary.

What do you think, NSG?

Remember the brouhaha over the Islamic center near the World Trade Center. That was Pamela Geller, so yes, I imagine those people believe exactly that.

Pamela Geller is an asshole, plain and simple. NYC transit got some major shit the last time she did this (see Mona Eltihaway) and I hope they do again.

Hi, Farn.

I support this and think it will drum up some right wing support, but the message would be more effective in a more heavily Christian area and not NYC which is heavily liberal. It is essentially ad money that will get a poor return on investment.

Well, that's certainly annoying. This Pamela character is certainly a bit loony.

Its a shame, and religious persecution at its finest. Hard to believe that something so intolerant could occur in the United States.

And she can back up these "facts" to prove that every Muslim person is a terrorist on par with IS?

Someone pay for anti-Christian ads showing medieval witch hunts and burning at the stake.

Ban her from the universe, Max. She's breaking your rules!

Anyone actually got the new adds before we go on condemning what we have yet to see?

Eh, I think the witch burnings lost their edge. I suggest that we use an equivalent that carries more sting in the American conciousness.

How about cross burnings courtesy the second most famous terrorist organization to operate in the United States? They didn't choose the burning cross as their infamous symbol because they only had two logs, rope, and a match.

Side-note: I love your nation name.
You should RP as a near-future nation that is simply Canada and America combined.

Yeah, I really need to start searching for a good World RP for this.

I would roll my eyes and mutter that tired, stereotypical phrase "Only In America", but this sort of rubbish could easily have happened anywhere else.

In all seriousness, this AFDI sounds more like a bunch of nutters who would make broad strokes of the proverbial brush and distort the facts about anything "un-American". To have this SOMEHOW get the green-light by someone in authority, in a city that has a multi-ethnic population ...

Shame. On. Them!

I'd recommend that the higher-ups forget "freedom of speech" on this one and bring ADFI to account, but I suspect that damage has already been done, anyway.

I have a genuine doubt, does freedom of speech cover all of this in the US or is it labelled as Hate Crime (something like that) and ,therefore, it's a crime?

I can't judge how much bad it is, as the ads themselves aren't described or depicted in the article. So I went to images.google.com and did a search for "pamela geller ads new york bus".

Hmm...

What I saw cannot be linked on the NS forum because it would constitute trolling. So yes, I'd say the ad campaign inacceptable - and this coming from a baby-eating religion-hating radical pinko athiezt like myself.

Cill Airne wrote:Its a shame, and religious persecution at its finest.

Shame, yes. Incitment to ethnic-religious hatred, yes. Trolling, too. Persecution, no. A persecution of the Muslims would be something on the lines of what happened after the Spanish Reconquista, just to name one.
