Actually, a fair bit of modern research suggests that the vast majority of "Briton" DNA comes the original migrations out of the Iberian hot-pocket at the end of the last Ice Age. So, much of British ancestry, the English included, supposedly comes from an arrival on the islands some 12,000 years ago (back when you could still walk from Spain to Britain on the ice). Out-dating the arrival of "Celts", Saxons, Vikings, Normans etc.

These invading conquerors did have an effect on the gene pool (muddying English Briton blood on average slightly more than elsewhere in the islands), but no where near as much as older history suggests. It's still all very unclear however.

Me, though. I'm English. Yorkshire specifically. My family's been near Boroughbridge for hundreds of years as far as I can tell (a very boring lot!). Going on the stuff I mentioned above, I imagine my heritage is largely just "Briton". But, taking into account my family's proximity to York and our last name, I imagine there is perhaps a sprinkling of Norse on top.

I thought the British mostly originated from the Normans?

The English specifically being more descendants of the Normans or Anglo-Saxons is a pretty common notion and largely still popular consensus, but more recent studies suggest that, rather than the indigenous "Celtic" tribes inhabiting Britain at the time of various invasions being displaced or slaughtered en masse by vast invading armies and waves of immigrants, it's much more likely that there was only a displacement of native/local languages and culture. With the indigenous peoples adopting the culture and languages of an invading elite minority rather than being wiped out or chased off by a massive foreign influx.

I'm perhaps not explaining it very clearly, but there's a lot of information out there if you're interested. Like this: http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/edwest/100093184/are-the-english-really-germans-or-spaniards/

From Turkey, pretty much raised in the USA.

I only know that my close ancestors(about 150-200 years ago) were from Dagestan or some region of the Caucasus. They entered the Ottoman Empire through some deal with the Ottomans to fight as mercenaries against Imperial Russia during the Crimean War. Since my family was a tribe or clan or something of that nature, enough members participated so that the entire clan/tribe could leave for Ottoman Empire territory(as family members of the mercenaries were also allowed to move).

My ancestors were also somehow involved with Sheik Shamil of the Caucasian Imamate. I'm guessing my ancestors were one of the tribes being led by Sheik Shamil, and fought the Russians during the Russo-Circassian war, but lost. Then the Crimean War began, and having left the Caucasus instead of swearing loyalty to the Tsar, some of my ancestors went back to fight on behalf of the Ottoman Empire against the Russians.

So I'm basically Circassian.

My mother is from Copenhagen and my father is from Aalborg, both in Denmark. I was born in Denmark but we moved to London when I was about 3 or 4.

Genetically, I'm more than two thirds Scandinavian (not specifically Danish, because I'm pretty sure I have some Swedish relatives) and a little bit German, English and Dutch.
