The 2014-15 College Football Discussion Thread

Postby The New Greek Republic » Sat Aug 16, 2014 4:21 pm

THE '14-'15 COLLEGE FOOTBALL THREAD

With less than two weeks to go until the college football season begins once more, I felt that the time for the discussion thread to go up was fairly ripe at the moment. A lot of hype is building for this season as several factors chime in to create question for many people about this season. How will the playoff system fair as it replaces the BCS system? Will Jameis Winston and the Florida State Seminoles repeat as national champions? Can the Auburn Tigers continue their gridiron success? What can Charlie Strong do in his first season as head coach at the University of Texas?

With the Top 25 (Coaches' Poll) being released a short time ago, do you guys agree with how the standings came out? If not, what are your own personal opinions of who should ranked and where at? The only disagreement I have is for my Texas Longhorns being at #24. They should be a lot high..lowe.. they're fine where they are. Never mind. What teams are you excited to see this year? For myself, I'm more than amped up to see how Texas A&M fairs without the help of Johnny "Football" Manziel, along with seeing how Mizzou comes along after a surprisingly successful 13-14 campaign. With out further delay, I leave you , the college football fans of NS, to discuss all that you want college football related!

I hope I'm seeing this right. UCLA at #7? Been a while since they were in the Top 10. Although, I wouldn't mind seeing UCLA show some dominance. I'd also like to see South Carolina do some good.

As for Alabama, eh, I just want them to be able to get out of the month of November without losing to someone. The past 3 years, Alabama has lost in November (11' to LSU, 12' to TAMU, 13' to Auburn). The only team they have yet to lose to who the play in November is Mississippi State. So if the pattern repeats itself, then Bama will lose to MSU this season (unless they choose to lose to Western Carolina). I don't care if they lose before that (they might have some trouble with Ole Miss), which is entirely possible since there's a new OC (and it's Lane Kiffin...*insert retching sounds here*) and a new QB at the helm. My prediction: 10-2.

It won’t fair.

It seems that several coaches, including Bo Pelini, have already decided that the playoff is only for teams in certain conferences.

In my opinion, I think the size of the of field was idiotic to say the least. I like the concept of college playoffs, but there should be more teams.

Probably Blake Sims, since he has the most experience and is a Senior. Behind him will more than likely be Cooper Bateman or Jake Coker, but more likely Bateman.

I personally would like to see Bateman to start, since he was so high rated coming out of high school. But, then again, I'd like to see one with a little experience, hence why I assumed that Sims would be starting.

I'm just hoping we see some underdog hang in as undefeated late in the season. I have a good feeling about Iowa State.

My Golden Gophers should continue to improve under Jerry Kill. That's what I tell myself.

As far as the national championship, I just hope it's somewhere out of the southeast region of the US. UCLA would be cool.

Too me, its better for the aggies to lose by a close one (One where we were behind. Or that we got behind, but we almost came back). It would show that the aggies could still play with the big dogs and keep them on their heels! Then lose big time!

If I had to place a bet on an underdog having a shot to bust the playoffs this year, I would give it to Marshall. However, since they play in one of the weaker conferences with the C-USA and don't have any noble non-conference opponents, they'd probably have to go undefeated and completely destroy every team they face by 3 or more touchdowns.

Marshall? I wouldn't be shocked given the weak conference and schedule. It's about as strong wet paper towel.

The new playoff system that we are going to have next year just doesn't suit my liking. It is so minuscule, and with all the bowl games still going on this just doesn't seem like a true playoff format. People seem to think that the controversy is going to disappear with this new format, but it really won't - when you have 4 spots for 10-15 potentially deserving teams, there is going to be a lot of moaning and groaning from teams like Oklahoma, UCLA, USC, and just about every other non-SEC team who didn't get selected.

Expand it to eight teams in the near future, or this is nothing more than an SEC circle jerk.
"Maybe it’s not the politicians who suck; maybe it’s something else. Like the public. That would be a nice realistic campaign slogan for somebody: “The public sucks. F*ck hope.” Put the blame where it belongs: on the people. Because if everything is really the fault of politicians, where are all the bright, honest, intelligent Americans who are ready to step in and replace them? Truth is, we don’t have people like that. Everyone’s at the mall, scratching his balls and buying sneakers with lights in them."

I expect people to boycott the playoff system this season, on the grounds that it's biased because an undefeated SEC team will be selected.
