Age Poll August 2014

The poll will be open for ten days. That's to cover two weekends, plus a day to allow for world time zones.

From time to time I will edit this OP to graph the poll results. I will estimate the number of posters of any particular age by dividing the poll result by the number of years covered by that poll option.

To improve the year-by-year estimates (other than 15, 16, 17 and 18 which each have a poll option) I will take into account ages posted in the thread. Posters of those middle teenage years are of course welcome to post their ages as well as voting in the poll, but it doesn't actually affect the accuracy of results. Anyone else: posting you age in the thread means you will be counted in my graph as that particular age, and your vote in the poll will be corrected to that age instead of being spread over the range.

Ages in the last category (41 or over) will be estimated by dividing the poll result by the number of years spanned by 41 to the highest age posted. For starters that is a span of ten years, because I'm 50. I voted the "41 or over" category and declared my age. 41 to 50 is a span of ten years.

If your birthday is between August 1 and August 10, you can claim the higher or lower age. It really shouldn't matter whether you found the thread the day it started or the day the poll closed.

Mean and median age estimates, rubber chickens etc will be presented when the poll closes.

Interesting that there is no option for under 13. Given much of the conduct on this forum's threads, I think you're leaving out one of the biggest demographics on NSG.

I see the necessity for the forum age rule, to keep NS from legal trouble. I don't like it because I don't like the wider law that makes it necessary. But this isn't the place to fight the law.

If you're under 13, then don't tell the truth and don't lie. Exercise the only other option you have: keep quiet about it.
