You have some strange ideas about what abortion is. Let's take a look at that word. "Abortion". What is being aborted? The unborn? That doesn't make sense. They're not a process that is being ended. Pregnancy is, though. When we assert a woman's right to chose what we mean is that it is her choice to remain pregnant or not. That the unborn cannot typically survive such procedures is beside the point, and it's probably just a matter of time before medical science changes that.

Foetal termination is so often a by-product of abortion that one may as well, for the sake of convenience, assume that discussion of abortion is also discussion of a foetus' "right to life" or purposeful termination.

But, as you point out, medical science is constantly advancing. The age of viability, for example, is being attained ever earlier in pregnancy. It may indeed come to be that discussion of the right to abortion does not necessarily require discussion of foetal "right to life".
