As some of you may or may not know, America's Sestercentennial is just 11 1/2 years away. If you do not know what that means, it means that in the year 2026 the United States of America, will be 250 years old.

I think we should celebrate this in a big way. To kick the year off right I propose that we unite to put in a bid for Boston to host the XXV Winter Olympics. To pull this off, the 2024 games should be put on the back burner. It is likely that Paris or Rome will beat the US candidate in getting those games anyway. So our strategy for getting the 2026 games, (to coincide with our national Sestercentennial) I propose that we instead support the Parisian bid for 2024 in exchange for the French supporting our bid for the 2026 games. 2024 is an important miles stone for Paris just as 2026 is an important milestone for America. I believe we should pull together for a Boston Olympic bid for 2026 because it was events in Boston that set this country of ours on the road to freedom and independence. We have to start preparing a national bid because the host city for 2026 will be made in 2019 which is only 5 years away. Of course, Boston would also gain the Paralympics. You can go to the Boston 2026 facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/BostonWinterOlympics and the official site is here: http://www.bostonwinterolympics.com/why-boston.html

Now if you think hosting the 2026 Olympics will be a big undertaking, I am not done yet. I am also proposing that we submit a national bid to host the 2026 World Cup in Los Angeles. Just as Boston helped shaped America of yesteryear, Los Angeles has played a big role in shaping the America of today. Based on comments by the FIFA chair this year, there is already a very strong chance that the United States will host the World Cup in 2026. But we still need to make a case to FIFA. http://www.insidethegames.biz/sports/su ... laims-fifa

I am also proposing that we bid for Austin, Texas, to host the 2026 Summer Youth Olympics. Why Austin? Because the future of America lies in Austin. The Youth Olympics are an addition to the formal Olympic programs that is designed with high school students in mind.

Right there you have the past, the present, and the future of our country. And on July 4th we should tie all of this together with one of the largest celebrations of our nation's birthday in history. Celebrations stretching from Boston to Honolulu and from Anchorage to Miami.

July 4th 2026 is going to be the party of your lifetimes.

Now then, can you smell what's cooking for 2026? And don't you want to be part of it?

Oh yes. I'm sure the FIFA board members and the various megacorps are positively salivating at the smell of dumptrucks of money unloading directly into their pockets.

I am aware of a grammatical error in the poll title but I am afraid that if I edit it it will reset the poll.

I hope in 2026, America would actually have a sane and rational government that cares for the best interests of the common people, not of the trusts that dominate the corporate landscape.

I would say yes to both. Although I'm not a sports person myself, the US should regain its reputation as a soft power, not a hard power. This would allow the United States to host many different countries in peace.

By the way, San Diego should host!

I say the US could make bids, but is too unpopular internationally to host such events.

I doubt this would happen.

If anything, the situation in 2026 will be worse for the entire planet, due to how climate change will affect the Earth in the near future.

Well, it didn't exactly deserve to be a popular internationally, after the last 30 - 35 years.

I probably say phooey on both. The Olympics is at least tempting. Having the World Cup in the USA would just be cruel to all those countries that love the sport.
