It isn't, actually. The planet is supposed to be very gradually cooling right now.

Ok. How do carbon taxes work then? And what other alternatives do you think could work?

Andrew Wakefield didn't even fake his pathetic excuse of a research piece and look at the fallout of that. A twenty year legacy of anti-vax worship and a bodycount.
Yeah, but what if we clean up the environment and then find out we were wrong?

Anyway, regardless of someone accepting the fact of climate change, they should at least see that we'll be better off without polluting, and that we will run out of oil eventually.

People do not understand the fact that oil is a finite resource. When the reality of this situation finally hits them, it is going to be devastating.

Send those who don't to the Moon instead.
There are people here who would knowingly screw the planet for a few bucks. No way would they be willing to go to another world. So we'll go, shoot anything that comes within a hundred thousand miles of us, and once they're all dead we'll start reterraforming.

Anyway, I'm going to say, about this, what I always say: if I want advice on economics, I will ask the advice of an economist. If I want advice on welding, I will ask either an experienced welder or someone who gives instruction in the subject for a living...
...and if I want advice on what is going on with our climate, as radical as this idea may sound, I am going to ask a climate scientist. If the climate scientists say that the climate is holding steady, then it is holding steady. If climate scientists say that human activity is contributing to change in the climate, then human activity is contributing to change in the climate.
I don't KNOW that these things are true, and I am well-accustomed to the idea that the conclusions of science often change over the years. Sometimes, old assumptions require adjustment. However, as far as climate science, I am am a layman. Even a Princeton physicist is a layman as far as the subject of climate science.
As far as my opinions on climate change, I know very little. I defer to the consensus of climate scientists on the matter. This might be an outlandish and strange notion to you, but it just happens to be what I am most comfortable with. You can follow me or not. I won't try to force you, and I won't try to press you on the matter.
I'm a resilient kind of guy. Let's see whether you or I last longer in a climatological holocaust. If you want to test your mettle against mine, then let's go. I'm ready. I just spent 8 hours hacking tree roots with a mattock in 90-something degree heat, and I didn't give a flying fuck. I have jogged in 104 degree temperatures and not given a flying fuck. I am pretty fucking sure I would last longer than most of you.
Bad weather doesn't bother me, either, and I grew up in a family that went to a lot of trouble to teach me how to prepare for hurricanes and other weather-related emergencies. They taught me how to soften gamey meat using organic weak acids. I am better equipped to survive, if the world were to go to Hell, than you are.
In the end, though, I strongly believe that those who have devoted their lives--and thousands of hours of labor--exclusively to discovering everything they can about the Earth's climate have a higher probability of knowing what the fuck they are talking about than a damn economist sporting a biased case-study.

Is there any reason that I ought to give a shit instead of just making fun of them? I'd be glad to test my blood against theirs, and let's see who lasts longer in a climatological crisis. It's fucking ignorant as hell to ignore the advice of people who are highly trained to study the subject matter and do it for a living, and if that much of our population really doesn't care, then I have no pity for them at all.The Serbian Empire wrote:Christiaanistan wrote:Yyyyyeah, and the famed "cycles" are probably related to the fact that our sun pulses over something like either an 8 year or 16 year period, can't remember which, and the climate scientists know how to control for that in their research, believe it or not.

The problem is 58% of citizens believe it's a ploy to increase their taxes even if they believe global warming is man-made.
