Obama: Good President or Bad?

Postby Absurrania » Tue Jul 22, 2014 11:59 pm

Alrighty people. It's 2014, and President Obama is two years from the end of his second, and final term. There's no denying he's going to leave a legacy(which, of course, will also be related to his race), but the question of the hour is whether that legacy is going to be positive or negative?

He won in 2008 on a platform of Hope and Change, and then got smacked with a huge post-Bush era recession which he has managed to climb up from, albeit under heavy fire from all sides. He proceeded on to 2012, winning re-election in a campaign that was criticized for being highly negative, just like his opponent's was, and was drastically different from his "Hope, Change" campaign from before. He's had the controversial Obamacare to deal with, the Benghazi incident, a sudden Arab Spring that has resulted in further destabilization of the middle east and some unstable regime changes in the name of democracy, which still eludes the region, a rising federal deficit, and the 2013 government shutdown, among other things.

I for one, think that he's done a fair job as President, having fixed the mucked up economy and at least somewhat withdrawn America from middle east conflict, keeping his promises on withdrawing troops. However, he's left a loooot of promises unfulfilled even after six years in office, and he hasn't lived up to his 2008 campaign promises. He's also been somewhat indecisive in emerging conflict in the middle east, preferring to speak on the matter but not act, thus allowing him to change his stance later on and avoid commitment. I've also seen the same on the Ukraine conflict, except there he's provided a single, unchanging stance, but still has done little to commit, until recently where sanctions have entered the picture.

Obama is better than Bush, that's for sure. He's a good president, in my opinion. Is he a great president? No. So NSG, what say ye? Is Obama good or bad? What parts of his administration do you particularly like/dislike?

Begin the dissection of his administration at will.

Oh, this is gonna get good.
Legalize owning RPG's and nuclear weapons, reinstate hanging, add in burning meat grinders, stop giving shits for airplane crashes, shut the fuck up about banning guns, the south will NOT rise again, you are just ignorant, look down on the poor, modify genetics so fat kids taste like bacon, cats are better than dogs, if you don't like what's going on in the middle east, fix it yourself, Obama is a good president, just a bad Congress, MLP is a kickass show.

And that's mainly why he wasn't a good president, in my opinion. He promised aaaaaaalllll this stuff like change and reform, and yet never really acted upon. However I will say it's not entirely his fault, it's probably more of a very small percentage of it. I'd say it's more along the lines of Congress who should be taking the blame.

I agree actually. Its been the Supreme Court doing all the work.

The only thing he implemented is Obamacare.

Lets not go into that eyesore of a political failure.

Let me clarify something for a lot of the liberals on here that will act like he was a god amongst men. Obama has run deficit spending, shown absolutely pathetic foreign policy skills, and violates the Constitution with huge significant executive orders.

Congress really has been a bane of his, although if he'd manned up and gotten things done before the 2010 midterms, when he'd still had a majority, he wouldn't have to deal with a lot of this Republican stall nonsense he's dealing with now. And from the looks of things, both the Senate and House will fall to their grasp in 2014. Yikes.

To be honest Obama's supposed attack on the 2nd Amendment has been trumped up, as he's done...pretty much nil officially speaking that has damaged gun rights, although he keeps threatening, which the gun market doesn't seem to mind since sales skyrocket everytime. I personally am against restrictive gun control...it won't work in a social environment such as America. As for Bush...he jumped the gun after 9/11, and was a little too eager to go into wars and fudge the justifications for them, and then fail to get a proper endgame while also sitting back and speeding the economic failure along.

What president hasn't done these things? To answer the OP's question though, there have been far far worse presidents to Obama, and many that were much better. He's done a decent job in office, but overall was pretty middle of the pack.

Any one not part of the US, they can't violate the US constitution if they can't work with it.

Accusations of Constitutional violations are common, yet so hard to prove and have little weight to them...If there were serious accusations out there, the Supreme court would be looking into it instead of Boehner filing a lawsuit that can't be finished before Obama even leaves office.

No, because Obamacare is a tax. The Supreme Court is kinda bullshit right now.

Alright, well, he's not great, but he's not really horrible either. Considering how hostile, petty, and obstructionist Congress has been, I'd say he's actually done a fairly decent job.

Yet...Iraq wasn't responsible for that....And Bush still didn't have good end games, hence the screwed up situations that Obama got slapped with.

The law suit is simply retarded, executive orders have been used for a very long time and have a basis in the constitution. Boehner just doesn't like what's been done with them, something that seems very common amongst the Mainstream Republicans, it's all fine when things are going your way, but the second someone else plays by the rules they flip the board accusing people of cheating. Productive. Not that the Dems are innocent either, but at least they don't flip the board as often.
