Major Reversals for the US

Postby Wiendonia » Wed Mar 19, 2014 12:43 pm

http://www.foxnews.com/world/2014/03/19 ... e-on-iran/

I swear i am astonished at my country right now. For the past 5+ years we have seen the feckless administration of President Barry Obummer short change democratic movements worldwide (esp the Green Movement in Iran, the protesters in Egypt, Libya and most horrifically Syria), fail to deal meaningfully with any major foreign policy crisis (whether Iran or Arab Spring or meaningful UN and IMF reform to the Syria Chem weapons crisis) and America's standing has fallen.
Honestly all claims that the US has some new age imperialist ambition should be tabled in my opinion. We have such an incompetent foreign policy and such an incompetent administration for executing our non-existent foreign policy. Im done, im just done. At least under President Bush (who's Iraq invasion was a very VERY bad move) we had a coherent foreign policy but now pfffffft im bout ready to move to France because they have an active and coherent foreign policy! Quick interventions into Mali and CAR and a firm stance on Syria and Iran. Thoughts? Is America now impotent regarding foreign policy under Barry?
I RP as the Zardic People's Party in Particracy! Join me there :D
Politically i fall on the New Right of the good ole US of A. Neocon/liberal conservative.
I tend to be more socially conservative and economically moderate.

The US recovered more quickly than Europe from the collapse of 07. We killed Bin Laden. The stock market is at or near all time highs. Under Obama more oil and gas drilling permits were issued per year than ever before.

Rolls of government employees shrank considerably.

He is practically the ideal Republican president, yet still he is vilified.

Don't blame it on Obama, blame it on the Congress, who, if there was a fire, wouldn't even be able to pass a "Pour Water on Head" bill.

The US does not want to get entangled in another land war in Asia. The public also now has very little patience for this sort of thing, the lowest since the Vietnam War. He could have unilaterally went into Syria, but decided to let Congress have some input after how much heat he got for Libya.

I mostly agree with what he's done. Overreacting to diplomatic incidents is a common mistake of common people, I'm glad he's largely shown restraint.

I supported intervention in basically every case where it was an option, but I have to wonder: what are you watching, and who are you listening to, to come to these conclusions? Are you actually in the same reality as me? You think Bush was more diplomatically competent than Obama? Jesus. Have you considered talking to someone who isn't American at any point in your life?

The government does this and that and people complain. Its pretty basic. Complaints come from every side at different times. Bush did this or that? Complain complain. Obama does this or that, complain complain. Its just heckling from the peanut gallery. Really, we as citizens are not so needed. The government does whatever it wants, and some people complain, but you can sit back and relax with your own life, comfortable with the fact that at least you cant change anything.

Grumble grumble, the president did this and that.

Without resorting to juvenile name-calling (And, really, couldn't you just have gone with "Barack Hussein Obama", which is at least accurate, if still terribly annoying?), let us know what you would have done differently. It's easy to heckle from the cheap seats. It's a bit harder to come up with an approach that will withstand strict scrutiny.

I don't see what Russia changing its position on Iran getting nukes is supposed to prove about the supposed incompetence of the Obama-Clinton-Kerry foreign policy. Ignoring the fact that this "article", more of a news snippet, is from Fox News (seriously?), in what way is such a move supposed to help Russia? For one, an interim agreement was already reached back in, like, November. For two, if Putin does end up changing the message of the Russian government, it'll probably result in just more sanctions.

Honestly, I don't see how this shows any incompetence on the part of the Obama Administration. If anything, the President and the EU have backed Russia into a corner that will leave Russia the worse off.
