Is the word "slut" inherently misogynist?

The word implies a woman is a bad person for sleeping with many partners, something that is completely okay for men to do. Hence the double standards, or misogyny. However, I am torn. What if she sleeps with many partners without a condom, then gives her next boyfriend an STD? What if she cheats? I hesitate to call her a slut, but that is exactly the word that comes into my mind. Now, I am no misogynist. I would never hurt a woman or treat her with disrespect. But I can't help this feeling I have that some women may be sluts, even with the inherent misogynist tone. What do you think? Is there a line to be drawn, or is the word slut simply wrong in all contexts?

Just because a small group of people use a word in a way that isn't the same as the the way the rest of the population uses it does not make it better.
If you ask "what is a slut" to a large group of people, they will say "A woman who has too much sex."

It doesn't need to imply women are bad for have lots of sexual partners - although it does normally have a negative connotation. I feel like its a word that can be reclaimed much like black people reclaiming the word nigger. There is of course nothing wrong of anyone of any gender having none or scores of sexual partners, on account of it being there body and junk.

What if I call a guy a Slut?

While I acknowledge that the term is associated primarily with promiscuous women in my social circle the term is used without gender bias so it is possible to be a male slut. Of course Promiscuity isn't considered bad in my social circle either, so maybe thats a thing.

I have also noticed a tendency for some young woman (late teens- 20's) to self label as Slut as something of a badge of pride. Most such girls are what my social circle would refer to as Skanking-Ho dogs:P

"Slut" is, at present, a word that is used to refer to both men and women. For a little while, "man-slut" was in currency, but has largely just been replaced by "slut" among the fashionable set.

Much like "author," it has lost its gendering, and could very well be deployed by misandrists exercising a double standard to disapprove of male promiscuity while approving of female promiscuity.

Yes, I know. AFAIK both slut and whore loosely translate into Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese as puta... And there aren't words for promiscuous men that are negative here either, actually there is a comparison of people with keys and locks that gets in my nerves.

There are affectionate and liberating ways to use puta, though indeed something that by my standards you can't use at a woman unless you know her very well, very playfully doing so.
