On an interesting note, what do you think of Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo?

I thought of Noli and El Fili as a metaphor of the social conditions of the Spanish East Indies, that it is a trashbin of corrupt politicians from Madrid, that the Islas is a place for Spanish nouveau riche, and a narration of constant rift between Peninsulares or Espanoles, and Insulares or Filipinos, Spanish-descent citizens born in the Islands. It was a simple novel that became an issue against the Peninsulares, because Rizal is a Filipino (Spanish-descent citizen, not the 'Filipino' as demonym for Filipinas), which made him imprisoned because it (1) became an avenue of literature for the common folk because it was published in both TAGALOG and ESPANOL, (I need to highlight the language part), a subversive remark against the Captaincy-General of the Spanish East Indies, and the Captaincy-General is quite in high alert on rebellions after the Cavite Mutiny, which was still fresh to the minds of the ruling elite at the Islas.

They're pretty good books, but I don't think it seeks armed revolution, as Rizal knows the price of a premature rebellion. It is also a classical liberal novel, as Rizal is a classical liberal, that seeks individual rights, freedoms here and there, and what we now mostly tag as "libertarian". If one is familiar of Rizal's lifestyle, he is quite a libertarian to say the least, and one of which is having lots of women around the world. Rizal is your one-of-a-kind "babaero" (womanizer).

Unless you advocate to preserve the conservatism then we ain't agreein

I advocate conservatism of right morals and values (resilience, light-mood, smile-prone, perseverance, hardwork, intellect, survivability, theistic), not the ones that degrades our generation and nation in general (intellectual ignorance, too much attention to entertainment and recreation, too much below-the-belt political mudslinging, anxious fatalistic attitude, jejemon trash hip-hop rap culture, misplaced contexts on discussions, too much pride on personalities (people who are famous), the Padrino system, and false evaluations on charismatic people (like PNoy, Grace Poe, Duterte, etc.)

And no, if you mean removing religions, churches, and ethnic systems, or other culturally-hardwired social traits, then just plain no. You can look for another country that practices removal of cultures (which is plainly impossible by human means). Because if you can't love this country nor appreciate what it had been through, and just keep mumbling about something that you think will make this country grow in general, then I suggest you look around and research.

Jejemon... is just part of the Philippine culture. Don't call it bad. It's just people trying to be fun, different, unique for once. There's nothing wrong with that, so long as they don't bring it to the formal sphere.

And what's wrong with rap? RAP IS COOL! Fliptop specifically...

And culture evolves and changes... if it decides to evolve beyond theism, evolve their attitude towards sexual and gender roles, towards a new style of art and music, towards new fashion and the like, no one should advocate creating policies to resist this, for this kind of change is unstoppable. (I can't believe i am returning all your words to you)

Culture is unstoppable. The Filipino society is changing and hopefully, this Renaissance shall continue to resonate but at the same time, we have to be a bit wise to separate culture and politics for if we don't.... we get things like Governor Vilma Santos and Grace Poe or Congressman Manny Pacqiuao.

True cultural secularization is not done through government policy, it is done in the same way as how religions evangelize. It is an individual choice, not a law.

Thus, we are in need of enlightenment intellectual prophets in the Philippines akin to the philosophers of the European enlightenment era.

The 1990s were best times for me, when singing songs about the country was a common thing.

Looking back on what I said, I mention no enforcement, nor implementation of a specific culture or thinking, and to repeat and rephrase what I said, I advocate selected certain traits that makes us true Filipinos and traits that we can utilize to make this nation grow, and condones those that makes us "Peenoise" and look stupid in the eyes of foreigners. Because really, does uniqueness weighs more than credibility? I also mentioned that removing cultures is impossible, so therefore, don't claim you're putting back my words, because you never did since. You're actually repeating my own words for the sake of arguing.

Thanks to Internet, social media and easy access to WiFi, the Filipino people are now truly "enlightened" of the bright future ahead of them! Hurah!

Society in general, not just Filipinos, are changing, and if we look at it, the elite is in charge of the trends and whatnots of the whole social class. Want to change it? Simple: Climb and stick to your goal. But once one's freedom is infringed, you're done for good. If you think you're going to tumble down the pyramid, it's humanly impossible.

I'd be pretty neutral on this, but I feel the sound of "patricians" from here. I advocate more on the connection and recognition of our people to our cultural heritage when it comes to tradtition. On society, I advocate a slow process to make the place more liberalized and secular.

Eh, still beats Russian conservatism.

I'll frown all I want, thanks.

Well He gave us hope in Noynoy, but decided that there should be a disability in the Government to make it more interesting, so He gave us a Binay for Vice President, and not just any Binay, but THE Binay of Binay(arans).

Oh my gosh you guys, there was a terror threat to my University earlier, but luckily it's over.
This brings something interesting up, just how prepared are we for a terrorist attack on a major Philippine city, because the Manila hostage crisis proved, that we are extremely unprepared.

Socialism is communism, only better English. Collectivism is part of communism, not a synonym of it. Political terminologies are quite unruly, that the last thing you will need is dictionary to define it.

Aside from which, we really need to put more emphasis on healthcare (or even social system benefits) on selected sectors that truly need it (ex. old ladies and men, war veterans, disabled/handicapped unemployed) but not make it universal because of the cost it will drain in the government's coffers. Not increase on budget, nor cuts, but proper and strict implementation, and faster queue in lines :D

I condone that song tho, unless I get past a Liberal Party HQ and want to oppose them with my playlist. I listen to "Ako ay Pilipino" because the intro is so original, and the lyrics will make you stand up and break some anti-nationalist bastard's neck and say what you are -- a Filipino.

This brings something interesting up, just how prepared are we for a terrorist attack on a major Philippine city, because the Manila hostage crisis proved, that we are extremely unprepared.

University of New South Wales?

To answer your question, we're not. If you ask Metro Manila, it will take 10-30 minutes for people to react, because everyone is busy. And we're still unprepared, unless you wanna feel being in a police state.
