In other news, RIP to the members of PNP-SAF killed in their line of duty. I do hope justice is served.

I don't think it's Ningas Cogon, though, since we only really had plans to do it for the papal visit anyway--a once in a season thing, you know, and not an actual permanent change in the state of things. And yes, may they rest in peace.

I understand where you're coming from. PNP has to make such preparations for the Pope's own safety. I guess I'm talking about the general attitude of the people during and after the visit. It seems like Christian values of our fellow Filipinos only rekindle when the Pope's around. If we are really observing Pope Francis' message, which is look after the poor, hunger and homelessness would be wiped out even without heavy government intervention. I too am guilty of that, and I wish to change that.

FIlipinos in WW2 were pro-American, even JP Laurel, that's why he's accused of no war crimes for his pro-Filipino anti-Japanese policies. Catholics were affected in the Japanese invasion severely (ex. unjust massacre on priests and clergy people) because of Jap's anti-West propaganda and bidding. So that pretty much says that Filipino Catholics can draw more grudge against Japan, while we don't understand why Japan hated U.S. specifically before the war happened (hey, the internet has everything, including the reason why Japan was pushed by US to attack first and as expected, US wants war and plays victim, and I know you saw these kind of scenarios).

And my points were what I said. I didn't have any specific p-o-v in my mind: I just wanted to check what you were saying, and for the point on communism, to prod you into revealing what you think communism is (because I'm pretty sure it's not the right meaning for communism you're talking about there).

There's no communism in the Philippines, only democratic socialists and far-left groups, Leninist, Marxists, dominantly Maoists who were incorrectly defined as "Communists", as I stated earlier, but again, total pinpoint-accurate communists don't exist here.

True communism is arguable, but for me it's an impossible utopia of universal equality and common sharing of resources with no system needed to exist or implemented. No proletarian revolutions, no red banners, nothing of that sh*t, thus, impossible. If we will dig deeper of it, we might end up going around circles of what it truly means, as it is an idea, not a reality shared with everyone in such a capitalist society as ours. I rest my case.

This does raise an interesting question, is it the actual leadership of the country that needs to be addressed? I mean when Pnoy first came into power there was this aura of success and stability the country hasn't experienced in a long time and with the growth of the economy our pride exponetially grew.

I'd like to raise a good question: What are the signs of a growing economy? Relying in statistics alone by foreign business articles might not help as they are also "fourth estate", only focused on business.

Ah, good. I'd really rather you just not use "communist" or "communism" when it isn't really "communism".

EDIT: But on your first point: I wonder where you learned that the Japanese unjustly massacred the clergy....
Not that I'm supporting your rather paranoid biases against the Philippine academe, no, I'm just pointing out the massive flaw in your argument.

Naw. The problem's always been the people. We're all too scared, selfish, or stupid to do what needs to be done. I mean, more than half of us don't even have the patience to throw our own trash in the proper places, or drive down our roads without doing anything illegal. Of course, the fact that the leaders are inept (listening carefully to even the first speeches of PNoy actually reveals that all he's been doing to make our current times look good is either misinterpreting data, ignoring all the warning signs, or, most notoriously, blaming the past administrations) is a big help.

No, we are not a nation of cat people. We're all humans (and a few annoying gnomes) here. The cat's just there because our king is such a genius, he saw that it would be a good military strategy to have a distractingly cute flag, to blind our enemies to (our) victory!

If my basis was the UST being attacked because the clergy hides soldiers, treat them, and get killed for it, churches being pillaged by Japs and killing the laymen and their religious, and other "haunted ghost" stories of priests being killed here and there, will you consider it another flaw in my argument? If it is, then point to me a specific time when the Japs never killed a priest during the war.

Haha Tell that to Joma Sison and his peeps doing "democratic" assemblies while not having police permits for doing so in public places, and even starting Martial Law with their "First Quarter Storm". Yeah. Also, try asking yourself was the "Diliman Commune" worth it? Is socialism compatible to a country like this, where the right-wing-minded conservatives and church-going fellas is as prevalent as fck?

God, I hate those fckers. Go to Cuba and tell that to (Raul) Castro, or to Colombia, Ecuador, or even to China. Lel

There is definitely a role the government needs to play. People needs to change, like actually following the law, but the government needs to change a lot.

I consider less hungry families, especially children, elimination of child labour and putting them back to schools as progress, in my opinion. Sure having a train from Bicol to Dagupan, a working transportation system and strong military would be a good progress, but people comes first.

Philippines do need some socialism, as much as I hate communism. For instance, I don't believe giving private corporations like MERALCO monopoly over electricity, or giving Maynilad the control over our waters. Natural resources is owned by the Filipino people. There are services that should not be up for profits, like water and electricity, our roads and transportation system. Ironically, these institutions were privatized by Fmr. Pres. Cory Aquino, the widow of the supposed communist Ninoy Aquino.

By default, talking shit at the Philippine Government and LGUs is acceptable. Exceptions apply.

My Biology professor who went around the Philippines to observe the effects of Yolanda on various marine habitats in the Philippines said otherwise....although honestly, I kinda dozed off when he elaborated on it. But there was, I remember, something about corals from one reef not being allowed to be transplanted in a region completely decimated by the typhoon....Oh, and there's also the fact that they set up protected habitats without any real coordination between the various habitats they set out to protect. But anyway...

Allowing foreign companies to participate in the Philippine market will create more quality or more affordable deals for the Filipinos in their own homes, but such cannot be applied to commonly needed resources (water, electricity, shelter, healthcare, education, employment/placement, transportation, infrastructure, legal counsel, retirement). Let foreign companies cater clothing, food, and other services that are not part of the aforementioned needs of a citizen. Notice that wage is not a separate part of basic needs, as it is covered by employment, let alone the government gives you a place to work in a private company so you can't go Marxist and revolt for shit. Well, that's how I want see it.

If you want, we can detail a child's life from the time he's born until he dies with all the best the government can do for him.

That said, it's not much socialist, just being "people-friendly". Glory to the government for glorifying the people, I will say if those happened.

I NEED MORE FILIPINOS TO PARTICIPATE PLEASE! I'll eat afritada for a week if I have to!

I think its not just Filipino Catholics who "drew grudge against Japan." It's all of the victims of the atrocities of the Imperial Army, regardless or religion. Besides, if Filipino Catholics still hold grudge against Japan, remind me once again why our government strongly supports rearmament of Japan. Events that were written in history books are all true, they came from the mouths of countless victims across East Asia and pictures that were taken in different places. We Catholics did not do anything to manipulate it.

Well I can agree to that much. If we allowed foreign ISPs for example, we wouldn't have to choose between a slow internet (PLDT/Smart) and an internet with speeds that would make you kill yourself (Globe).

Nope, I don't think so. Even if that's true, they can surely do more. The problem is the government does not have the balls to do some tough reforms for the better.
