This will be an important year for the Raiders. They're undeniably getting more talented. They showed flashed of promise last season. This season is going to be a bridge of sorts. They aren't really contenders this season, but if they do vie for a wild card spot and improve on last year, they can become potential contenders for the 2017-18 season.

If they don't mess anything up, they'll do great.

8-8 is my worst case scenario for the Raiders. The Chargers are going to be the whipping boys of that division, with the Broncos still winning it and the Chiefs vying for second with the Raiders.

They really wasted Philip Rivers didn't they? Not a single Super Bowl appearance. 2009 could and maybe should have been their year. But mr Kaeding missed three field goals vs the Jest (two from 40 yards and under) and thus they missed out on an AFC championship game at Indianapolis.
Mind you, the Jest could have won that game. They were up 11 at one stage, and with two minutes they were only down 6. You guessed it they lost the game when Sanchize pick-6ed.

Broncos have gone through largely weak passing game by very old Peyton Manning and mediocre Brock Osweiler yet their offensive game was not too bad. They have pretty good corps of receivers in Sanders and Demaryius Thomas, decent OL with the signing of Okung and CJ Anderson's decent RB.

Denver defence didn't really lose anybody big (Jackson and Trevathan aren't Miller or let's say Talib), and Wade Philips is there as possibly the best DC in the league. They ain't going anywhere.

With Oakland, Carr has yet to proven me that one can be better than Alex Smith as a QB and really push past his often-passive play to playoff spot. On top of this, and the extreme inexperience of the winning this squad have, I am not convinced at all (yet, who knows) that they'll win this division or even come close. They'll challenge for wildcard spot, but winning the division is not something I see.

The Broncos have the Sanchize, him of Jester (in)fam(e)(y).

Infamy aside, we have to recognise that he's done pretty well with NY Jets (for first few seasons before he crapped out) and then Philadelphia Eagles. Paxton Lynch is a cerebral QB who looks like the QB of the future for Broncos atm.

Denver's not going to repeat that this year. Last year they had Peyton Manning. This year they have...Butt Fumble.

But yeah, I see the a Raiders either getting a Wild Card or going, like, 8-8. 9-7 at most.

Already explained why 2015 Manning to Sanchez may not be that bad of turn right above.

Nobody's saying that Denver's going to defend the title. But they're in a lot better shape than post-1998, with most notable omission being Manning. As great of game manager Manning was last season, he had significant limitations and age that really changed things from 2013 to the final day of the season. So really, if Sanchez delivers pretty well with them (and their WR corps being pretty good), they'll be fine with the air game. Running game's decent with Anderson, though with an OL that can be much improved (Welcome to Denver, Okung), it can get better....but that's done for now.

Their defence returns most of the key guys, and the draft went well for them as well. All good.

Until the season starts, Denver will be the favourite to win the division in my books.

Personally I see Raiders at 7-9 or 8-8 as well, but given the level of competition in other divisions (e.g. AFC North, Buffalo Bills' building up decent in East, etc), I doubt they'll take a wildcard spot. They have yet to prove me that they're going to do any better than 9-7 in my books.

We have the Raiders in Baltimore week 3 and we owe them one for last year. Madden has them beating us 47-44 on a FG as time expires in OT. I don't think it happens quite like that.
Madden does have us 3-1 after 4 games though, so I would take that.

Raiders will be a tough team. Someone was talking about the Panthers here and I got a feeling they may end up not meeting expectations. We'll see.

What Lynch can do remains to be seen, but Sanchize is the shits (literally). Sanchize did not carry the Jesters to the 2009/2010 AFCCG's, the defense carried them, and counted on Sanchize not to throw the game away (one can argue that Sanchize was to blame on at least 6 of the Jests losses that year, a particular brutal loss in NO with 4 or 5 picks IIRC). 2010 he was marginally better but it was still the defense carrying him. And its going to be an offensive showcase too. That double TE action New England has now, plus Tom Brady, plus their already pretty good WR corps, plus now Nate Washington? Damn.

It is absurd to suspend players for smoking pot.

Bart Starr used to show up for games drunk out of his mind. As long as he played well, Lombardi didn't seem to mind.

I hope when the next collective bargaining agreement gets going that the NFLPA will demand an end to pot being on the banned substances list. If nothing else it would be a lot safer and healthier for the players than the opioid cocktails they take for the pain and injuries.

I didn't say Sanchez is shit, OR that will he land Broncos a super bowl ring. If he gets a ring, I think all of us will have to send a bottle of Dom Perignon to Sanchez's place for underestimating him because let's be honest, that'll be once in blue moon thing to see or even contemplate :P

He's still a serviceable, veteran option present for only a gapstop option. Nothing further than that. At least he did well in Philly, so that's one thing to note, but who knows.

Get ready for a boring season, Denver. Their D will bail their terrible offense more than often.

You have yet to prove me on why their offence will be terrible. Their running game isn't going anywhere, OL got an upgrade in Okung (a huge signing in what's a pretty weak OL anyway), and passing game should be better if not at least par. Once again, you're overestimating on other 2 and not in Denver.

In addition, Raiders have yet to prove that they can take that final step and improve. I don't see them being ahead of Broncos or Chiefs until Day 1.

Bart Starr used to show up for games drunk out of his mind. As long as he played well, Lombardi didn't seem to mind.

It's absurd to punish players for any drugs, period.

If every player dropped PEDs, especially line and defense, you would see drastically increased injury rates, maybe even a few mortalities.
It's just me against the world.

Yeah I saw that. Trippy and weird as shit. Vick really needs to shut his brother up, the guy seems to do nothing but make life harder for him.

Jenkins: WELL I HOPE YOU'RE SATISFIED, CHIPPY. NOW I AIN'T GOT ANYONE TO PLAY WITH.

Chip Kelly during the Eagles: For my second trick, I will bring in even crappier talent to replace what left! I'll say the magic word, Philly Cheesesteak, and poof!
Adam Schefter: We have breaking news on ESPN, the worldwide leader in cable television costs, Chip Kelly has brought in free agent squirrels to Philly! He must've loved my squirrel dance!
Assistant: *whispers inaudible words*
Adam Schefter: Wait, it looks like Kelly brought in Sam Bradford (knee), Mark Sanchez (butt), DeMarco Murray, Ryan Mathews, Kiko Alonso (knee), and who else? Oh yes, Christ. Seriously, I thought he brought squirrels in.
Adam's phone rings. It says on his Twitter: Adam Schefter has been relieved of duty on ESPN, the worldwide leader in cable costs.
Adam: Dafuq?
Chip Kelly: *whispers* That was my third magic trick.

^This, This and This. Smoking weed should never be a reason to suspend players, lol.

Now Denver has a defense that can do this also, so there's always that possibility, but I'll eat my non existent hat if Sanchize ever gets a ring as a player. As a Pats fan I've had the privilege of seeing Sanchize regress badly in our division (and he was never good to begin with) and Thanksgiving 2012 was the absolute highlight (OK, lowlight if you're a Jest fan).

You, sir, are winner of the day's discussion :P

Denver has Sanchize as QB, who isn't a leader like Peyton. Besides the rest, they lack an adequate QB, which is one of the most critical positions. Having a great D and other offensive positions help, it won't completely mask the QB need. Plus, they dented their salary cap with that ridiculous contract to Von Miller. No wonder they couldn't get a quarterback.
