Japanese Discussion Thread

Postby Arumdaum » Wed Sep 04, 2013 5:36 pm

We haven't had such a thread since Nana's "Nihongo, daremo ka?" in 2009 was it? Or was it 2010? Either, it's been a pretty long while, and I think there's a considerable amount of people who have an interest in Japan on this forum, me included, haha. Also, there's a few people on the forum who seem to speak it pretty fluently.

Feel free to vent about Abe or talk about how great horse sashimi is.

I remember I was in 7th grade back then, and I'd been trying to learn Japanese (by myself ;_;), and had successfully taught myself to read kana in a few days, as well as some basic vocabulary, kanji, and grammar. My interest in Japan and learning the language in particular has arisen again, though, so I'm hoping that this thread will help.

Either way, I think my rather limited knowledge of Korean has helped a pretty large amount in trying to learn Japanese, due to similar grammar structures as well as due to the heavy amount of loanwords present in both Japan and SK from places such as China and the West.

The Japanese language is part of the Japonic language family, which is part of the controversial Altaic language family, which includes the Turkic, Mongolian, Tungusic, and Koreanic languages. The word order is SOV, and it's not a tonal language, for those of whom are interested.

But either way, what do you think of Japan? Have you tried learning Japanese? Have you been to Japan before?

こんにちは、 皆さん.。 アルムです。 私はアメリカ人です、 けれど私の両親は韓国人です。 高校生です。 2009年に私は日本語を少し勉強しました。 貴方達は日本が好きですか。

ぼくは外人です。

I've been doing Japanese at my school since year 6, next year doing year 12 Japanese. I kind of kept it as a subject just because it's a close country to Australia and would be a useful language if I get into business.

Don't know if I will go to Japan, my school is doing exchange with our sister school next year so depends how I am feeling.

日本語がまあまあです。

You got to use "ga" instead of "wo" when it is subjective on someone's opinion of something, "wo" is relating to objects and the use of it. My sentence said I felt "so-so" about Japanese.

What I think about Japan. The good things. Nice rural landscape. Some of there films are good. This includes anime. They have large modern cities with plenty of lights. They make some quality items like swords and electronics. The bad things. They generally look down on native Japanese (Ainu) and foreigners including foreigners of Japanese descent. They follow there leaders over a cliff. Example, WW II and this current nuclear plant fiasco. When it comes to that nuclear plant contamination the govt. has left out many things which the Japanese people do not seem to question. There govt. thinks and acts has if they were victorious in WW II which makes them insensitive toward there immediate neighbors who were attacked by Japan.

And I do not know why anyone would want to go to radioactive Japan. Yes, parts of Japan are radioactive but which parts since there gov't. will try not to admit that there is a problem.

Ah, thanks.

I've pretty much been using "wa," "ga, "and "wo" as how I would use "neun," "ga," and "reul" in Korean, haha. But since both languages are probably not that similar and since I'm not really good at Korean, #__# erogijoejrg

EDIT: Heh, turns out I was also using "reul" in Korean in place of "ga" in this kind of situation. My investigation continues.

I just learned to read/write kana and some basic stuff for like a month late in the year before giving up, but I still learned some stuff. :>

Some parts of it are, Weird Japan is way overblown though. Most of Japan isn't particularly weird. And yes, some guys do... so do some guys in just about every other country.

Do people generally use kanji when writing the year, though?
