2013-2014 NHL Discussion Thread

Postby The Royal Kingdom of Quebec » Thu Aug 22, 2013 6:48 am

With NHL season getting closer and closer(less than a month 'til pre-season comes, at least), It's once again the time for us to discuss thd upcoming NHL Season.

Will Toronto make into playoffs again?

Will Philadelphia's goaltending situation(Est.1986) finally improve?

How will Nathan MacKinnon, Jonathan Drouin and Seth Jones do in NHL stage?

What do you think of Phoenix Coyotes' new ownership group? Did the city and NHL made right decision by keeping the money-losing team in Arizona?

Tortorella's now the head coach of Canucks and Vigneault, Rangers(swapping coaches, eh :P ). Meanwhile, Patrick Roy and Lindy Ruff took charge in Colorado and Dallas. What do you think of these coaching challenges?

It is rumored that there will be an expansion very soon. Where should it go in your opinion?

Optional(I just put that in there cuz I'm also a Q fan): Aside from Drouin and MacKinnon, who 's your favourite QMJHL draftees from 2013 NHL draft?

Can my Ducks win without Selanne? I have a feeling we're going to miss him badly.

You guys at least have Monahan and Bärtschi. Both of them can be a very good NHL player within 4 seasons. What a shame that Flames started their rebuilding too late though.....

Oh, well. At least Flames have chances to land Reinhart/Ekblad in '14 Draft and McDavid in '15.

I think they will, but they will move on and still be a legit contender for Western Conference. It's not as if they would play without Getzlaf or Perry.

Besides, Ducks got Silvferberg and a good prospect in return of Ryan.

I'm here for ya, brother. Just don't expect anything from them this year, and we'll be pleasantly surprised when they do win a game.

I'll be interested to see how the goaltending situation turns out, though.

It's such a shame though we had to let Jarome go like that. He did so much for us, and we did nothing for him in return...

I'll be rooting for the Bruins next year, so Iginla can finally get his well deserved championship.

At least, Iginla and Kiprusoff will get their numbers retired or honoured after their retirement.

Detroit's in East, starting next season.

Blackhawks, Blackhawks......

This is supposed to be a discussion thread about NHL, whether you watch or not. This is not a 'Do you watch Ice Hockey' thread.

Heyheyhey... Flames won the 03-04 Cup. We won Game 6. That the refs were idiots, and didn't make the call, doesn't change that.

I'm not from either. I just think it would be fitting.

Actually....Avs and Red Wings. Just to keep an old 90s rivalry alive.

Here is just an interesting pattern with Roy, who always won something on his rookie season(excluding his time in QMJHL). He won his first Conn Smythe and Stanley Cup in his first NHL season(85-86), won a Stanley right in his first season as an Avalanche(95-96) and lastly of all, he won His Memorial Cup with Québec Remparts right in his first season(05-06) as Québec Remparts' Head Coach and General Manager. All of them had very good offensive core: Richer, Carbonneau and Mats Naslund in 86, Sakic and Forsberg in 96 and lastly Radulov, Angelo Esposito and Vlasic in 06.

Will that continue? Probably no, but Roy is smart enough to start getting/developing some good defensemen(e.g. Barrie, Bigras) and most importantly of all, goaltenders. I could see them winning a cup in 5 seasons.
