Dear all other nations!

After reading a report in an austrian magazine about 5 possible scenarios concerning the future of the EU, I decided to ask for your opinion.

The full report is only available at http://www.cap.lmu.de/download/2003/2003_cap_szenarien.pdf , only in german, sorry.

It basically defines 5 scenarios for the european future.

1) total fail of the idea, dangerous
2) core states with soe cooperating states
3) like it is now
4) more integration of other states, some form a core region
5) superpower europe, United States of Europe, ...

At least its the largest region in the world, if you measure the GDP (http://de.statista.com/statistik/daten/studie/222901/umfrage/bruttoinlandsprodukt-bip-in-der-europaeischen-union-eu/)

5.
But the name "United States of Europe" sucks. We'll keep "European Union".

Nope, it'll split in half and the Germans will briefly take France before America rides in, saves the day, and gets 50 brand new states.

Not gonna happen, except for Turkey.

Who knows what it'll be called. Doubt the USE. EU works as a name.

I'm guessing it'll vary around a point of being about where it is now. But that's a huge guess.

Hopefully 5.
I wouldn't rule out the med-expansion proposals. Not this century, but one day maybe.

Nah.

Let's call it something that will truly piss off eurosceptics while pointing out what it actually is, say, for example...

"Freedomland".

Why don't we just be done with it and call it the Terran Empire.
To make all the other nations go "uhhh..."
Especially if we colonize off-world and refer to them as "The rebels." :p (But never actually go to war.)

That sounds like something American Nationalists would use. :lol2:

It was also a dig at them as well.

But I also approve of Ostroeuropa's Terran Empire idea.

Yeah but keeping the term EU would just be confusing.

It's already a federation. o:

Unencumbered by the prejudice that the EU is sui generis and incomparable, federalism scholars now regularly treat the EU as a case in their comparative studies (Friedman-Goldstein, 2001; Fillippov, Ordeshook, Shevtsova, 2004; Roden, 2005; Bednar, 2006). For the purposes of the present analysis, the EU has the necessary minimal attributes of a federal system and crucially the EU is riven with many of the same tensions that afflict federal systems.

Nah, it's just one step before Confederation, and there's already the Helvetii for that.

Too German and implies that member states aren't republics in their own right.

Call it the Federated Republics of Europe.
