It is not impossible to support democracy and believe that the existence of social classes should be tolerated. Any liberal democrat accepts such a position. What I was saying is simply that an individual who grants exceptional value to the preservation, strengthening, and expansion of democracy should understand the value of seeking the total abolition of social classes to truly further all of such goals.

The Scientific States wrote:A self explanatory topic, but do you think inequality is bad, or is it nothing to worry about. Some people argue that class divides make it hard for people to be succesful, and that it isn't fair.

Others say its natural for inequality in a free market economy, and it helps encourage poor people to work hard.

I personally despise inequality(big surprise), because it makes life unequal, and it makes life hard for those affected or born into poverty.

Anyways do you think inequality is bad, just a harmless thing created by capitalism, or the far extreme, thinking its a good thing.

Inequality is a great thing :)

It's not as terrible as many of my socialist kin may say it is, but I definitely think it should be reduced. You should be rewarded for your effort, yes, but there should be a ceiling for the rich and a floor for the poor. Having a man own several mansions while people starve to death in the street is not ethical.

Hell yeah. I was born with a scepter in my hand and a magic diaper on my ass.

According to my mother, pushing the diaper out along with my tush was quite painful. Lot of chafing, as you can imagine.

“It is inequality that gives enlargement to intellect, energy, virtue, love and wealth. Equality of intellect stabilizes mediocrity. Equality of wealth makes every man poor. Equality of energy renders all men sluggards. Equality of virtue suspends all men without the gates of heaven. Equality of love would stultify every manly passion, destroy every family altar and mongrelize the races of men. Equality of altitude would make the whole world a dead sea. Mountains rise out of plains. Plains rise out of the sea.”

It's not stealing when the rich take advantage of government services such as healthcare subsidies, agriculture subsidies, and tax shelters.

Letting the poor die is far more unethical than demanding the rich to cough up a bit of money.

Correct, they aren't. Doesn't mean that they cannot be mentioned in a manner relevant to the thread. In this case, "These are natural things, are they also nothing to worry about?" Challenging their status as natural, on the other hand, is liable to make this thread about those things.

Anyway, natural doesn't mean good. Cancer is, for example, natural. As are colds. So is keratin, which does tend to not be something to worry about but it can be (rather like inequality... which is generally concerning but a concerted effort isn't required until things get out of hand).
