Postby The Islands of Metanoia » Mon Jun 17, 2013 7:03 am

Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch is a place in Wales, England The United Kingdom. It's famous for St. Marys Church in the Hollow of the White Hazel Near to the Rapid Whirlpool of Llantysilio of the Red Cave'.

The name was given in the nineteenth century, when it was desired a development of the community and its transformation into a commercial and tourism center.

Currently, I feel that Wales needs to reassert it's own identity vs Imperial London. Struggle to maintain Welish culture a midst English influence.

Anyway, I came to this forum to ask what your opinion of England the United Kingdom is? Especially Wales? How about England?

Just a couple of quick points, as a Welshman: 1) If you're translating "Llanfair" as "St. Mary's Church" (and, tick, VG, to that), then you probably ought to have translated "Llantysilio" as "St. Tysilio's Church"; and 2) Wales has her own identity, widely recognized, parodied, and even sometimes mocked by the rest of the UK and the other bits of the world that have heard of us, so I don't quite see your point about "Imperial London," whatever you mean by that. Finally, coming painfully near Welsh nationalism for my liking, as has already been said, to ask people's opinion of England, "especially Wales" is just wrong; Wales is Wales, and England's the other bit. Both are parts of Great Britain, and of the United Kingdom, and, arguably, for all heraldic and some constitutional purposes, the former Kingdom of England, but in modern usage of the terms, you can't really say Wales is in England.

EDIT: Oh, and my opinion of Wales? Gwlad Duw, bachgen :)

My opinion of England? I don't have much of one. Well, other than that I know they hate freedom.

My opinion of Wales? I don't have one, but I hear it's wet and the people...uh...do what New Zealanders do to sheep. If you catch my drift. ;)

Don't lie, it's famous for it's ridiculously long name.

Currently, I feel that Wales needs to reassert it's own identity vs Imperial London.

Do you want to make the name longer or something?
Anyway, I came to this forum to ask what your opinion of England is? Especially Wales?

My opinion is that you probably haven't been within an ass's roar of the Wikipedia page for the UK in your life, much less the actual place.

Also, the name of that town should not be legal. I'm pretty sure it was created just to fuck with cartographers and mapmakers. That's just sick.

-"Where are you?"
-"At Llanfairpwllgwyngy ..." (dead)

I agree. No one comes up with a name like that unless they are trolling cartographers.

Most people in the area call it "Llanfairpwll" 'Llanfairpwllgwyngyll" or "Llanfair PG."
