Changing circumstances sure have never led to a change in policy. Nope, never. Not ever. I have never heard of this happening.

Anyone who's ever ran a business would know that you only plan to ever spend 90% of your income as changes in the market can wipe that 10% away like that.

A country is not a business. I personally don't think we should have tried to go for a surplus so quickly.
This was formerly a signature. One day, it may return to its splendid past. In the meantime, enjoy some pictures of my cats.

Businesses have an Income, so do governments
Businesses have costs so do governments
It is for the best if both have a little money left over after costs, in the governments place this is called saving for a rainy day, for a business this is called make it worth the effort or profit.

On regards to this surplus stuff, we are repeatedly informed that we are in a boom and that the economy is in a better position than it has been for most of our history, how come when we are making record income are we not able to keep the books level at the bare minimum.

I think India and Pakistan will finally go to war. Either that or the North Korean government will do something awesomely stupid. I'm betting on the latter.

And this is the problem with Labourite/social democratic parties in government for a while. A section of the working class react against these bureaucratic governments and vote for the right.
Egypt:
Spontaneous protests will not produce organisation, it is more likely to lead to an oppressive clampdown! There needs to be a long-term strategy to build the left towards..
-mass parties of the left
-mass trade unions
-mass left-wing publications

We'll see more troubles and conflicts in the Middle East for sure, as the election process in the US has ended and now Obama administration is ready to take action poking their nose into there as usual.
