And Here We Go: Presidential Election Day 2012

PostPosted: Mon Nov 05, 2012 10:24 pm
by NERVUN
Yes, I know there's thread on this. Since we are now within election day itself, this thread is for all things for this day including returns, polls, and calls.

A couple of things before we get started:

The rules are still in force: viewtopic.php?f=20&t=183223
The previous threads are here: viewtopic.php?f=20&t=200277 and viewtopic.php?f=20&t=185075
The election prediction thread (Which is now locked to prevent changes) is here: viewtopic.php?f=20&t=205581
Races other than the presidential election are here: viewtopic.php?f=20&t=206668
ASB's poll thread is here: viewtopic.php?f=20&t=176788

A note about gloating and sore losership. Yes, at the end of the day, some people are going to be happy and some not so happy. Those happy people are going to want to celebrate. This is fine. Stating "Yay! My person won! Surely the world will be rainbows and kittens!" is acceptable. Stating "Yay! My person won! Surely the world will be rainbows and kittens! Oh, and (opposite party here) suck it!" is gloating and will bring BAD THINGS*.

The same for those who are NOT happy with how things turned out. Stating "Boo! I can't believe he won! The world's gonna go to hell! I'm moving to Canada! (I have no idea why Canada, must be the Canadian bacon)" is ok. Stating "Boo! I can't believe he won! The world's gonna go to hell! I'm moving to Canada! You guys are all morons for voting for him!" is not and will bring BAD THINGS.

Either way, please try to keep things somewhat civil, if you feel someone is violating the rules, PLEASE report this in Moderation for us to deal with. I offer no prediction either way except noting that no matter who wins, the government and banks will be closed and troops will be marching in the streets in less than a week!

And now, as Kryo will undoubtedly want to turn me into bacon for mentioning Canadian bacon, I must depart... quite rapidly.

*Said bad things may include, warnings, bans, and waking up in an elementary school in Japan with a sign that reads 'I like play kancho' and a target painted on your bum.

Edit: There is now a specific thread in Moderation for presidential election moderation reports: viewtopic.php?f=16&t=207314

Mod edit: Neo's OP on his thread was too good to waste, brought over here:

It is 12:00 AM, November 6, 2012. It is now election day. And this, is NSG's election results thread.

Four years ago, almost to the day, at midnight, I created the NSG Official 2008 election thread. That thread chronicled the election of the first African American President. I've also created the 2010 thread, and the tracking the Scott Brown election thread.

I make these these threads for reasons that may surprise you...beyond the endless need to yell "FIRST" that apparently exists in every person with an internet connection. I do it, because, believe it or not, I truly care about this forum. I have been here for many years, and had some great memories. We have a crazy crew here, that's for sure. I've made friends, compatriots, collegues, and met someone more special then I can say.

And for some reason, y'all seem to think I have occassionally interesting things to say. Whenever the "best of" NSG threads pop up, my name gets floated a few times. Once or twice, a bunch of you got together and decided I was the top poster on the forum, despite my amusement of that concept.

So in 2008 I created the thread. I took the job of "coordinating" the thread. I made it my responsibility to report states as they were called. Update maps, discuss what options remained for McCain, and announced to NSG when Obama had been declared the winner. That is the purpose of this thread, and the role of its master of ceremonies.

So with that in mind, I went to make this year's thread, and realized...I couldn't. It didn't belong to me. Not this year. You see, while I may have been judged one of the better posters on this forum from time to time, it seems this year I must be content to sit at second best. I was displaced by someone who earned that honor, in no small part, through his constant efforts to expand the discourse of this forum. An unwavering dedication towards bringing the election "home" to us. Tracking its nuances, its developments, with a staggering commitment.

So while I may be the one to make this thread again, it doesn't belong to me, and I merely create it in order to introduce the rightful party, the one who this year has earned the right to MC. It has been a long election, for all of us. And the one who has helped us navigate it thus far is the one who should take us to the end.

ASB, the floor, and this thread, are yours. Take us home.

So I guess my hope to put a picture of Mitt Romney next to Ike, Reagan, and Nixon while playing "which of these things is not like the other" is right out? :p

Can't believe this is nearly over.
I absolutely hate the election hype, but I do love Election Day.
Finally, we get to see what it all was worth.

I turned in mine today, but it won't get sent until Thursday. My vote won't count... and I'm not spending $60 and four hours on a round trip to drop it off in a LA county voting place. :(

This is going to be good. I voted already, so I'm counting on the results and voting to work out, but....

America, regardless tends to make the world disappoint more, so at least let's hope for more positive things post election. :(

Well, I convinced some guy in FL to vote for Romney instead of Gary Johnson last night.. So I feel that I've done something to advance Romney's upcoming victory.

Can't wait to see Florida and Ohio go red :p

Just you wait. 24 hours from now, the 2016 Presidential nomination threads will start popping up like fetid mushrooms.

Correction... should have been "voted". I did my civic duty on Friday.

So mine will count in the OC.

My prediction: Obama win.

Electoral vote: Obama - 303, Romney 235.
Popular vote: Obama ~50%, Romney ~48%.

I voted the days after Sandy because shorter lines, and now I wait to see how it goes. It took a surprisingly short time. Balitmore had a 4 hour long line for early decision.

Let's see. I can't drive six hours from college to my voting precinct.
