The next superpower?

In theory, who could it be, if a new one emerged?

I've seen arguments for all sorts. I always liked the possibility of Brazil stepping up as the USA of Latin America. But also, with the eurocrisis, what if hypothetically the entire European Union combined to become economically stable, to rival or even overpower the States as their national debt magnifies?

It was just something I was thinking about.

I'd consider China to be a superpower already.

^this. Also im not sure what good all the nations of the EU would do if they merged together. Since they all share a common currency the only thing I can see coming from it is the combonation of all of the member nations debt. But then again in not an economist.

I would say china is close to being an economic superpower,if they manage to maintain themselves over the next decade they could probably cement their position there and step up militarily.

I would say Brazil has a good chance of being a superpower eventually, it seems to be doing well for itself.Maybe Russia as well if they get their act together some more.

The fact is we dont share a common currency only some member states do.

The EU will never combine as this is not what the people of Europe want. I can see things staying the same as they are. Maybe the UK might pull our heads out of the ground and start to grow and become more powerful but it wont be for decades until we are a super power. 2013 will be a deciding year. I can see conflict all over the world

China is a Potential Superpower, and hasn't reached Superpower classification yet.

I'm pretty sure that's even worse and there's still the issue with piling on every nations debt into one huge debt.

Find me a quote that isn't from wikipedia, and maybe I will stop laughing. No promises, though.

Why don't you find me a link showing me that China is officially classed as a Superpower, and then there's a chance I'll take you seriously.

next superpower

China, no question about it. India could be much more powerful if they didn't put up with so much corruption. If N. and S. Korea unite they could become as powerful as Japan.

Europe is too generous with social welfare to be a superpower for much longer. Who wants to set up a business in a country with a 50% tax rate and heavy safety, labor, and environmental regulations. The USA has lost jobs to China for these reasons.

The UK has shamefully given up so much power since WW2. Queen Elizabeth is a symbol of weakness and I am shocked people in the UK love her. Look how much power in Africa and Asia the UK has lost since WW2. The UK gave up all of Hong Kong when they only had to give up Hong Kong Island and Kowloon (based on the treaty, ). That was a stupid move.

Why can't I show you?
China has a major economic foothold in this world. More so than America does, even.
America owes more money to China than any other country owes anyone else.
I'll drop this here, and this here.

I asked for sources explaining how China is currently classed as a Superpower, not how it is rapidly becoming one.

Try harder.
