That pure libertarianism sometimes fails to take into account the third parties affected by any action, government intervention, or its reduction or absence. Sometimes.

I'm speaking mostly of public schools. It seems the critique is based off imperfect laws and actions. The strength of the teacher's union, for one, is a big problem. Though the notion that therefore justifies abolishing the state's involvement in education is silly. It needs reform.

Say we abolish all public schools and adopt a voucher system. The problem is that private schools can reject certain students (based on low grades, "bad apples," etc.), so what happens to them? I tend to agree with Friedman that every citizen should or must have a basic education, it being fundamental to a functioning democracy. I wouldn't mind a choice between private and public schools, perhaps a voucher provided to you if you pick a private one. But I dislike any such system which aims to destroy anything publicly owned, it should be a choice.
