School uniforms are extremely beneficial, and I support them. It helps instill in students the ability later in life to wear proper clothing for work, subliminally suggests equality among students, and removes self-consciousness in students.

What? Many students start working around 16, why do they need to learn this in school, when they're learning it at their job? Why do we need to suggest equality? School isn't about stressing equality, especially in a system that promotes competition to see who is the smartest. Students will always be self-conscious.

1) They reduce the ability for student gang members to display their affiliation, a problem in some schools.

Makes it easier for them to be identified if they have their 'Gang' clothes on.

2) They reduce the need for parents to provide their kids expensive, stylish clothing.

A relatively broad dress code (no gang colors, shirts with buttons, no labels visible, no jeans, no althetic shoes except in gym class)

Define gang colors? Anything but blue and white?
achieves the same ends (except 3a, but it has its own limitations) while still allowing the kids to dress mostly as they choose.

Can you show me how many schools have problems with showing gang affiliation? Pretty much anything can be turned into gang affiliation. Where I live, it's the color red. Are you suggesting that we should have uniforms because a commonly worn color is also worn by a gang?

Nobody is forcing the parents to buy their kids clothes. If they're slaves to their children, that's bad parenting.

No they don't...wear the same thing every day...take no extra time to put on than normal clothing.

What extra time...? Unless you outlaw makeup, girls will spend the same amount of time getting dressed. Guys don't spend much time getting dressed anyway. Plus, here's the thing: it's a waste of money. Why pay for something that you won't wear out of school? Why should you be forced to buy clothes you don't want when you can buy clothes you DO want that you can wear outside of school as well as in school.

But, to reply to your comment, I find them to be beneficial, I just see no reason as to why it should be law. I think the school should decide for itself, on whether, or not they want uniforms.
