This is the proof us atheists have been waiting for.

Unfortunately, christens will still think the particle can listen to them.

This is totally off topic, but you're wrong. Six gods came from Kronos and Rhea, and only Athena sprung from Zeus's head after he consumed Athena's mother, Metis. :ugeek: :ugeek:

Question: how exactly will this benefit us?
I mean don't misunderstand me, I think this is fascinating. But would this unlock some new form of energy or something?

God is composed of god particles. Just like I am composed of strange quarks. :)

Perhaps, maybe only in a hundred years but still. A hundred years ago some people were experimenting with much larger particles and what did it give us? Nuclear energy! No doubt there will come some application along some time in the future.

Theoretically...

If we can actually figure out why matter has mass, we might be able to find a way to stop it having mass, at least temporarily...

Remember Star Trek... People asking why the crew don't get smeared like jam against the rear window when the ship goes to warp speed...

The 'answer' is an anti-inertia device, knowing what makes mass, and thus inertia, might mean we could build one...

Then there are those pesky 'Laws of Motion', Force = Mass times Acceleration.

If mass = 0 Acceleration equals infinite... Easy Lightspeed travel here we come...

All kinds of reasons to be interested in the origin of mass.

Because if it didn't exist a whole heap of modern physics would have to be rewritten. Think of the cost of redoing all those physics textbooks. I think that justifies the cist of these karge science experiments.

Does that mean, if we manage to extract this "god particle" from any spacecraft, in theory we can go faster than light?

No. Not at all. Higgs particle does none of that FTL shit, that's Neutrinos.

Bears Armed wrote:

Well, we've done the first which gives us the possibility for the second. Now since it looks like the second isn't going to happen, CERN has contingency plans, like the CNGS which found out that Neutrinos may be able to go FTL, which is going to cause at least some major rewrites to past theories.
