How is dressing up as the opposite gender (not including those who identify as genderqueer) demonstrating school spirit?

Simple.
1: They ask people to cross-dress to show school spirit.
2: You cross-dress on the appropriate day.
3: School spirit shown.

I don't see how that is all that hard to follow...

Because you're doing what your school tells you to.

I understand the instructions as to why it could show "spirit" (I'm not dense), Spirit Week is generally fun, "quirky"; but true transgenders/transvestites may not find it as funny as say "60s Day" or "Talk Like [blank] Day" could be. It can be perceived as offensive.

So why did you ask then?

I didn't ask for the instructions on how it would show school spirit (I apologize if it may have appeared that way). I just haven't heard of "Gender Swap Day" as a Spirit Week activity; as I said before, it can be offensive, and therefore not fairly funny.

I have no problem with it. It's fun. My senior year I came completely looking like one of those hardass Asian martial artists you see in movies. I had bandaged my chest down and cut my hair.

Just in case you aren't aware, Asians are very good at masquerading as the other gender.

EDIT: Oh and my boyfriend was dressed up as me. He... was disturbingly accurate in his appearance. T_T

Actually, I know several transsexuals and they think that these days, even in their crude humorous way, isn't that big of a deal. They think that kids get to find out what the feel like on these days, and they think it's just funny because of some of the ridiculous things you see. :P

I get your point but, you see, several transsexuals aren't all transsexuals. There will, undoubtedly, be some who find it offensive to their identity.

Nevertheless, I'm going to let the topic go now because I guess I've said my piece.

Well, you could just wear what you usually wear and tell them you've come as a Drag Queen / Drag King (delete as appropriate).
