Gender Swap Day!

Postby The Truth and Light » Wed Oct 26, 2011 6:38 pm

Today was gender swap day at my school, as part of Spirit Week. As part of the theme, many boys showed up in female clothing and some even in dresses, while many girls dressed in the tomboy style.

Is this acceptable in a learning environment? Why or why not?

For me, it seems to definitely be a distraction, but it didn't really seem to keep much from getting done. But this sort of event seems to be controversial. What do you think, NSG?

That transvestism and/or transgenderism is played for laughs.

I only see a problem with this as it makes actual transvestites and transgendered folks look like jokes. This said, other than that, nothing should be noted about it.

Not sure. It seems Spirit Week is a common festivitie in American schools, and themes can range from Pajama Day to School Color Day; I've never seen a gender swap day before until today.

Damn, I thought this was about a hypothetical situation in which-

Never mind.

In any case, I don't really see any educational problems with it.

So what do people who dress in drag do?

Also, Spirit Week is lame anyway.

High school isn't about learning, it is about making friends and having fun. <-- Unfortunate truth, IMO.

We did tons of these "days" and generally had almost no teaching on them because everyone was laughing and having fun looking at how crazy everyone else dressed.

This, plus your flag and nation name make a wierd and somewhat awkward but funny combo.

Yeah, the same initial thought occured to me too when I saw the title... a hypothetical situation-

Anyway, I just question the purpose behind this. I see no inherent detrimental effects... I just don't see any beneficial effects either. Seems pointless.

I actually think it helps make those more socially acceptable.

All of Spirit Week is basically pointless.
