I don't think inanimate objects can offer consent and therefore I do not even know if they could be raped by definition.

Do you mean if the victim is not a real person but is instead made-up?

Rape jokes, no. It's not funny, it's rape. But I've also never heard a rape joke before. The idea in general makes me feel uneasy though.

Wow, there has to be some sort of Internet Bonus Points to manage to find a way to take a swipe at a religious belief while defending joking about rape...

I don't find them funny. I can understand what makes them funny, given they are actually funny jokes, but the fact that they're about something as serious and common as rape instantly ruins any chances of me finding it funny.

I voted "it depends". A good joke is funny regardless of the content. So yes, I can find a good joke funny, even if it is about rape. That doesn't mean I think it's an appropriate joke to be making.

I can respect that and I wouldn't make such jokes (not that I make them anyways, but you get my point) in your presence.

What I can't really respect are people who think they can choose what others can or cannot joke about.

Well, ok, what about the rape scene in Pulp Fiction? I think that one might be a better example and it made people laugh. I'm not sure that's a rape joke per-se, but it's similar to a degree.

Find me too sensitive if you want, but I find jokes about traumatising events that are far too often defended in the public limelight quite sad and not at all humorous.

Jokes about literally anything can be funny. Whether they are or aren't usually has very little to do with the subject matter. So I have no problem with rape jokes, so long as the joke is good.

I am also a fan of racist jokes, but I don't actually think any less of a person from a different ethnic/national/religious/cultural background. In the same way, if I am a fan of rape jokes, it does not mean that I'm okay with rape.

Aside from that, I just have a very dark sense of humor. By friends will all tell you that I say incredibly creepy things and laugh at them. Rape is not off the table.

A joke about forcibly shoving your cock into an unwilling woman's vagina isn't, really.

If done poorly? No, of course not. And why is it always a woman being violated, hmm?
And saying, "Yes, yes, it was a joke about a nasty bit of violence, but it was so well-delivered, I couldn't help but laugh," is trying to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. It would be much more honest to say that you enjoy laughing at someone else's misfortune and physical violation. I wouldn't like to hear that, either, but it would be honest.

"Yes yes, it was a joke about a nasty bit of violence, but it was well-done so I didn't really mind and found it quite funny." would be closer.

They're all in bad taste, and none is funny when in the company of those who are bothered by them. They can be used most properly in black humor fashion. The best example I can recall was one from a story by Ambrose Bierce, in which the main character rapes and murders a girl--the same characters later hypnotizes his mother and father into kicking each other to death. But it isn't a "har har" type of story, as Bierce didn't intend to elicit laughter with any of his works. It was more of a bitter commentary, and the writer would undoubtedly be annoyed were one to refer to the rape incident as a "joke".
