I like to laugh at people when they're trying to get a serious point across regarding taboo subjects. Nothing throws someone off when you start laughing during a therapy session for people with relatives killed in car accidents.

Not that I actually think those things are funny, of course.

The point being that anything funny is worth laughing at. Laughing at taboo subjects, to me, helps take the 'taboo' away from them, and pulls the issue out of the darkness. Better to laugh at something awful than to let it quietly fester in the darkness.

What? I just legitimately find those topics of conversation funny...>.>

Erm, alright? So where's the problem?

Much of comedy is based upon laughing at the misfortune of others. A joke is funny if it is well-done. If a joke is not well-done, it is not funny. It's that simple. Are you denying that a joke must be well-done in order to be funny? That's what it looks like to me, in all honesty. You're objecting to justifying rape jokes by saying they're funny if well executed. The alternative being someone saying that they're funny if poorly executed?
You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear, and rape jokes are decidedly not silk purses.

I don't see how this is relevant.

A joke about someone slipping on a banana peel is funny. A joke about forcibly shoving your cock into an unwilling woman's vagina isn't, really. And saying, "Yes, yes, it was a joke about a nasty bit of violence, but it was so well-delivered, I couldn't help but laugh," is trying to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. It would be much more honest to say that you enjoy laughing at someone else's misfortune and physical violation. I wouldn't like to hear that, either, but it would be honest.

Everything can be funny, it depends how you go about convening the humour.

Sure. I mean, I don't find most of them funny only because I've heard a ton of them and they get old but it's a joke and should not be taken seriously. If someone gets offended by a rape joke then they sure as hell better get offended by jokes about death or pain or even racism. It really pisses me off to see someone laugh at a joke about dead babies or dead people but when it comes to rape they lose their fricken' mind.

I've heard at least one joke involving rape that wasn't about taking pleasure in someone's misfortune. Generally they're douchey though, and can be really alienating (the constant rape jokes are basically why I don't like Tyler the Creator more, for instance).

Yes. They can be amusing.

But I equally understand that there are others who do not find them to be so, for good reason, whether it be differing values or personal experience. They are not something I would just throw out there regardless of context with people I do not know.

I have a rather dark sense of humour, but I don't think it is fair for me to expect others to necessarily share that and would not want to make them feel uncomfortable.

A joke about someone getting shot multiple times and dying because of it can be funny.

A joke about someone starting a nuclear war because of sexual insecurity can be funny.

Violence, death, murder, violation of rights, torture, all can be funny if done right.
A joke about forcibly shoving your cock into an unwilling woman's vagina isn't, really.

If done poorly? No, of course not. And why is it always a woman being violated, hmm?
And saying, "Yes, yes, it was a joke about a nasty bit of violence, but it was so well-delivered, I couldn't help but laugh," is trying to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. "Yes yes, it was a joke about a nasty bit of violence, but it was well-done so I didn't really mind and found it quite funny." would be closer.

As long as it's a good joke then sure.

It's not your place to say what people can or cannot joke about. (though of course if someone in hearing range asks you to not do it you should respect their will and speak lower/move away/etc.)

If you saw someone being raped, you would find this amusing? Or if someone told you about how their Xrelative died in a car crash, this would amuse you?

Man raping woman = Depressing
Woman raping Man OR Man raping Man = Funny
Woman molesting woman = Hot.

Values Dissonance much?
Note: these are not my views, thats how society responds to it.

I only sometimes find them funny because of me and my friend's tasteless humour.

Jokes usually involves fictional characters. So, sure, it can be funny.

Jokes about rape involving real people though, no, of course not.

Well as far as I know society does not find gays funny.

At all. Even on comedy shows I've seen maybe 3 or 4 gay jokes total and they do really bad.
