How are you coping with the Economic crisis?

Postby The Imperial Navy » Tue Aug 18, 2009 1:07 pm

Seeing a few people noting they'd lost their jobs, I ponder how you are coping in the current climate?

As for myself, I work for Tesco, a multinational Supermarket, which is still reporting record profits despite the financial crisis. I got a payrise this year, which pretty much shows how well they're doing. Everyone still needs to eat eh?

The way things are looking Tesco is one of the last places that will go under. To put it simply, I seem to have chosen the right career. As crappy as it may be.

How about you?

I haul toilet paper, so as long as people don't get so poor that they can't afford to wipe their asses any more, I'm okay...

Don't worry the free market will solve all things. Jobs for everybody; world hunger; cancer, aids, education, the environment, who shot jfk!

Seriously:

Severely cutting all discretionary spending. Keeping the cars for much longer. Canceled all Credit cards.

I don't. The crisis haven't affected me at all, been on two great holidays this summer holidays. I'm a teenager so I try and not worry about these things.

I work at a tea shop. I don't really have much to do till next May. My mother still has a job. What I willing be doing is in no risk. As the economy gets worse for the world more people will be needed for my plans in career.

I want to save as much money as I can, to visit Serbia sometime in future.

Dad's lost his job early on, we're coping somehow trying to put together a little business, fighting government bureaucrats of the health-inspecting kind. Apparently one can't make dog food on less than 36m², for it would be unhealthy then...

I myself am doing better, my job tutoring at uni is a safe one and pays okay, and I have a graduate job lined up for next year. Not the kind I might have gotten before the crisis, but still a pretty sweet deal.

I personally am unaffected. I have had a steady well-paying job for nine years now with a company not experiencing any kind of slowdown. My family, pretty much all employed in medical fields, also have nothing to worry about. In fact, five months ago, I was given a decent raise. My personal "economic crisis" was in 1999 & 2000, but no one cared then. Because of this role reversal of sorts, I've personally enjoyed making comments like "its no big deal" towards things that others are cutting out or if I make a big purchase, because ten/eleven years ago the same people were doing the same thing in my face.

I spend my entire paycheque to help the economic community, by contributing. I have a really secure job, guarantee not to be laid off, so I figured the best I can do is just keep investing and hope it won't hurt others TOO bad.

I've invested in hats, condoms, McDonalds, and women.

Four things male American citizens will never have a lack of interest in.

That's how everyone should cope with any economic crisis, in America anyways.
