Shooting seaman all over a sub

A British sailor has shot two officers on a nuclear powered submarine in Southampton during a visit by local dignitaries.

A Royal Navy crewman has been killed and another is in a life-threatening condition after a shooting on board nuclear submarine HMS Astute.

A third Royal Navy serviceman was arrested after police were called to Southampton docks where the vessel has been berthed since Wednesday.

The BBC's Jonathan Beale understands that a crew member shot two of his crew mates before being overpowered.

I find this quite weird, given the armed forces have such easier access to weapons but I cannot think of a similar case in the UK.

We should ban the armed forces.

They'll need arms, what kind of force would they be?

No, you need to add a sarcasm detector to your inventory though.

To be honest being in such confined spaces with the same people for a long time I am surprised more people on submarines don't go a bit mad. I guess that this doesn't seem to happen more often is because of careful screening and good training.

Before this topic gets submerged in sympathetic replies I thought I'd shoot down rumours that my legendary status of making puns way too soon is washed up.

How else shall we stop such tragedies happening again? We banned civilian guns after Dunblane, so we'll ban armed forces guns after this. It's the only right thing to do- the armed forces can have sharpened melons (blunt outside of combat situations) to fight with if they must.

Out of curiosity, what did you search for? I googled ''19th century ship boarding'', but all I got was ones of civilians boarding at docks.

Not so! I propose we take Africa's lead as an example of our apology for colonialism, and fight armed with sharpened melons. Of course, unless we're in an actual war, we should use blunt melons instead.
