The question was what nation will be the next superpower. Not which one is on the verge of becoming a failed state run by drug cartels.

Well what if the world runs out of drugs and Mexico becomes the sole supplier?

Narco super power status engaged...

It's really the other way around for Japan.

I say Brazil, Mexico and Iran will become a superpower

But I don't think Iran won't be able to be a superpower since they get lot's of terrorist attacks there.

But if we win the War on Terror maybe Iran will unite every Musilm nations into one big Nation

But this is just a theory

Honestly, it isn't nearly as powerful as maybe the UAE, but maybe "rich" would be a better term for that situation

If Australia can find a way to fully make the rest of the continent habitable, then totally them.

I'm imagining kangeroos being a compulsory pet.

I find it very interesting that neither Brazil nor Indonesia is on here. Brazil more so, but Indonesia does have a large population, high volume of shipping, major cities, and oil.

I'm imagining kangeroos being in the military of Australia.

But if not Australia, Canada, I haven't heard from them in a while.

How about the Commonwealth? If Britain were to exert more influence or direction on the constituent nations they would have a lot of power.

Russia is vastly overrated. If countries were cars, Russia would be a 1980's Honda Civic with a massive engine and no windows, doors, or seats. It might go fast for a while, and it'll make a lot of noise, but really it's not good for much.

Similarly, China is a car made in China. A rip off of a bunch of other countries, that, should it hit a wall, it will smash like an accordion.

Never forget that there was fear that Japan would overtake the US economically in the 1970's and 80's.

Thank you. God, it gets so old hearing about the rise of China when the same thing was said of Japan decades ago. Not to mention their economy is already slowing down anyway, as ours is gearing back up.

It hasn't been doing great lately. Granted, I'm skeptical the UK will withdraw from the EU, but the Eurozone is sort of a joke. And the only country really pulling the rest of Europe along is Germany.

The EU has a larger GDP than either the US or China. Personally I think the US and the UK are more likely to experience problems because of the policies producing extreme wealth inequality and squeezing out the middle class.

It does, but it's not really one economy.

And as the past has shown wealth inequality does not necessarily equate to instability.
