Cutie pox could conceivably lead to death from exhaustion or from ponies acquiring dangerous talents, but there appear to be no recorded fatalities. I can't think of a proper horse pun for bubonic plague, but it would probably result in mass graves.

Well in the Cutie Pox episode, they did have air raid sirens and those hazmat suits. So they went through something similar to the plague.

Technically they are both Equus Ferus Caballus, the same species. Size and phenotypes are the only difference.
