Which really sucks, because in the hands of a capable game dev team and a deadline that isn't rushed to try and line up with a premiere date or whatever, the Avatarverse work work wonderfully in video game form. Whether as some sort of fighting game, or action-adventure or action-RPG, or hell, a pro-bending sports game. Hell, video games could be an awesome storytelling tool to explore other time periods in the setting and the adventures of previous Avatars. I mean, we've got a full 10,000 years between Wan and Korra, I doubt the events in the TV series are the only interesting things that have happened in that span! :P

Pokemon video games are good. and frankly, I would love to see an Avatar game that explored the history of other Avatars. Or, better yet, an online Avatar MMORPG! you could start by choosing your element and stuff. and it could be similar to Elder Scrolls Online in that it explores history and lore of the Avatar Universe. It would be a great way to continue the franchise, even after the end of its TV era.

Except pokemon games were made first. They're not tie-ins, they're the sourse material.

Thing is, the Pokemon games came first, the TV show/comics/movies/etc were based on the game, not vice versa. :P

Not sure how well an MMO would work though; there's a certain inherent imbalance in the system itself. For instance, not all players picking earthbending are going to be able to take the metalbending perks (or, while we're at it, the lavabending!) and similar goes for the upper-tier skills in the other bending disciplines. Game balancing while keeping remotely in the ballpark of canon would be a pretty tricky balancing act. It could work, but I think the setting lends itself to more narrative genres than MMOs can usually offer.

Oh yeah, forgot. and they could do an Avatar MMO in a way similar to Star Wars the old republic Online, both in terms of how the moves work, and subelements, by having each element have a sub-element they can choose.

I think this was the closest thing to an Avatar MMO. I say WAS because the game has been down for about 2 years now.

Time for Season 4, Episode 4: The Calling! Sounds exciting.

And thus, Meelo drew the first Korra fanart!
Burned forest? Have we been transported back to the Winter Solstice Episode from Book 1 of A:TLA?
Apparently the Franz Ferdinand mustache is popular in the LoK world.
Gross-out humor? I thought LoK was above that.
Whole empire united? What about Omashu? That wasn't on Kuvira's map, and I would think the fall of Omashu would be a pretty big deal that someone would have mentioned.

Overall, a pretty good episode. I liked it. Next episode should be interesting.

Obviously, even Omashu fell to the metalbenders. This wouldn't be the first time Omashu has fallen. It fell to Chin's army, The Fire Nation, and then it fell back into Earth Kingdom hands. Though I'd like the think Omashu resisted quite well, being a city of major importance in the Earth Kingdom. But don't forget, it also has been 70 years. Who knows how Bumi's descendants fared in ruling the city?

I find it strangely odd how much we are referencing Chin the Conqueror these days. He seemed like such a minor character.

Nah, it's a commentary as to the outdated and disconnected nature of the Avatar itself. This is the people realizing the inherent archaic and unhelpful traits of the Avatar, like the Monarchs of old that caused the great hundred year war. Much like those archaic positions of leadership, it is a bygone position of a bygone era; one that the people have demonstrated that they are ready to discard so that they can embrace true freedom and equality.

This world doesn't need an Avatar. This world needs unity.

Hail the great uniter.

Definitely got the "calm before the storm" vibe from this episode. But then those two soldiers did mention that Kuvira's military is moving on Zaofu. Does anyone honestly see Suyin standing down and joining the empire given what we've seen of her attitude toward Kuvira at the coronation? For that matter, does anyone see Lin just meekly standing idle while her sister is attacked since they've reconnected during Book 3?

I think shit is about to go down bigtime.

That's almost certainly what they've set up.

Think we're going to see our first "war" style battle since LoK season 1? :>

I dunno, I'm thinking more "Siege of the North" in potential scale, with full-blown military forces rather than the smaller scale clash between the Republic military/police and the Equalists. And unlike that battle, both sides are going to be pretty even in tech level and firepower unless whatever Varrick's up to is ready for deployment already.

Hell, maybe even messier if the other nations do decide to intervene on Zaofu's behalf. I'm not sure how likely that may be to actually happen, but it could.

I think the United Republic is staying out of this conflict, but I wouldn't be surprised if the Fire Nation intervened to help the main characters, because

A: The writers need an excuse to show us the Fire Nation, its military, and/or its politics.
B: Varrick said the United Republic is too dependent on the Earth Kingdom's resources, the Water Tribes may still be recovering from the Civil War, and thus the Fire Nation is the only nation left.
C: Raiko isn't the most decisive and courageous leader in the world, so its possible the Fire Lord (Zuko's daughter) is more willing to take action.

Just because Korra happens to be the one to be the Avatar during this glorious transition doesn't mean you are in any way right. The world has demonstrated its desire, if not need, for a truly free and equal world. This is a world that cannot exist under the guidance of Avatars, but one that has to be shaped by the hands of men working harmoniously and with united purpose. Time and again, we have shown that there is no actual need for an Avatar. Simply put, their days of relevance are at an end.

Also, don't get mad at how my great 50s broadcaster ways bring the message of unity and peace to the masses. Instead, realize the truth of what this world tells you, and hail the great uniter.
