I thought 'In Flames' was everyone's first melodeath band, they're the only one I like really. I like Lunar Strain at least.

I know, that's what I was saying.

Well, my first melo death was Carcass. You're saying you don't like Carcass?

I've never listened to any MeloDeath as far as I can remember. I'll remember to give it a go.

In Flames, Dark Tranquillity, At The Gates, Kalmah, and Light This City. Those are my favorite MeloDeath bands. Amon Amarth is also good, but I'm not quite sure they are considered MeloDeath.

And yes, I've listened to and like Wintersun. If you like Wintersun, you should definitely give Kalmah a try. Light This City is somewhat of a cross between MeloDeath and Metalcore, but really cool since the lead singer/screamer is female. Unfortunately, they're no longer together, but their 2 or 3 albums are great. Also, not sure if Arch Enemy is considered MeloDeath either, but they are another female lead MeloDeath-ish band that you should give a try if you haven't already.

Kalmah? KALMAH???

KALMAH! KALMAAAAAH!

Well to be fair, the vocalists vocals seem like they're derived from the thrash metal snarls that Dave Mustaine and other artists pioneered, and they do use some riffs and rythyms with a likeness similar to hard rock and heavy metal, that were once synonomous however they managed to muck them up and put on gimmicky sounds that make it sound more like a synthesizer then an instrument.

=D

many years ago, when I was like fourteen I actually liked Linkin Park and System of a Down and Korn and all that stuff that I've come to hate, I think its a phase people go through.

I wish everyone was as civil as you =D

I think we all do, even Death Magnetic couldn't wash away what St Anger and the albums between did to their reputation.

Well, I have no love of Djent, but I certainly don't accept all genres and I guess we're going to have to disagree there.

Linkin Park are sellouts, SOAD are sellouts by accident, and Korn is best nu-metal band.
Death Magnetic is cool. Metallica got so bad that Evile, a band that copies Old Metallica, just made a song better than all new Metallica albums combined.

L like mathcore! I know not the most popular but I like complexity of the music. My favorites are the Dillinger escape plan and Psyopus

Living After Midnight is one of their worst songs.

This is like being the worst Viking or the worst US Marine or the stupidest mathematician or the dumbest theoretical physicist.

Still fucking epic compared to everything else.

There's really nothing remarkable about it, so none of those comparisons are really valid.

Not mine. Although I don't remember what it was

I believe my first melodeath...and first extreme metal in general...was Scar Symmetry.

At the Gates and early In Flames have been my long-time melodeath favorites though.

And whoever said they didn't like Heartwork...smh. Listen to the title track's main riff again. Soooo good.

I absolutely love Wintersun...one of my all-time favorite albums. You would probably also like Ensiferum...same vocalist but a lot more folky.

As for melodeath, here are some that I like: early In Flames, Dark Tranquillity, At the Gates, Carcass, Insomnium, Scar Symmetry, Amorphis, Amon Amarth, Dan Swano, Dark Lunacy, Ghost Brigade, Hypocrisy, early Children of Bodom, Imperanon, Raintime, Soilwork...to name a few. I also know a lot of bands that blend melodeath with folk (Wolfchant, Wintersun, Eluveitie, SuidAkrA, Equilibrium, etc)

You might like Kalmah, they are one of the few CoB inspired bands that are actually decent. Unlike Norther.

This is not the thread for such discussion, neither is Nintendocore good.

I'm sorry, but if you like Korn and not Converge, something's wrong bro. Especially if you don't like punk.

A&F does that to you. When I first start joined NS my favorite bands were Linkin Park, Disturbed, Godsmack and Breaking Benjamin.

...Yeah, my tastes changed a lot too (for the better). And I can honestly say that if I hadn't joined NS my favorite band would probably still be Linkin Park.

This. I actually like Converge AND [early] Korn but refusing to try any band that plays a punk genre? Kinda foolish bro

I think it's just from having friends with much better taste than you.

Gonna see Baroness next month, possibly Between the Buried and Me in October and Motorhead in November.
