/co/ is directly responsible for MLP:FiM becoming so popular with adult males in the first place, it's where the craze started, and it's from where it's since branched out (Ponychan being a /co/ springoff on the basis of severe moderation restrictions on 4chan proper, and the occasional 2g1c/ tubgirl spam in MLP threads).

The show's creator has knowledge of this, of course (Having directly referenced /co/ on her DevArt account), and has thrown /co/ the occasional piece of fanon reference in the show itself.

Also.

And I suppose I can try and compare it to the old MLP cartoons I watched as a kid. ;)

'sup Bronies?

Turns out 'Equestria' was reserved by an ex-nation. So I had to alter the name a bit... :(

But this name'll be good enough. :) I am going to try to run this nation as Princess Celestia would...if it's allowable by the mods, I will make Equestriaa more of a group controlled country by telegramming the password to those interested in the joint administration of Equestiraa! :D If the mods are ok with that, of course.

Anyone up for helping me write a factbook for Equestriaa?

Speaking of pony nations, there are two pony regions that I know of: Pony Lands and Equestria. I've got a puppet in Pony Lands, fun bunch of people.

Episode 26 felt really short. Now it's time to fill the summer pony drought with more pony threads than one could imagine.

As long as the ponies being posted are on-topic for the thread and not spamming. ;) So how come 4chan has such a pony hate-on anyway?

My best guess is because ponies =/= phalluses.

*shrugs* in seriousness, from what I've seen 4chan is a den of hatred. If it were a bridge, it would have to cross the atlantic ocean to fit all of the trolls.

Haters gonna hate (have a related pony picture, but don't want my posts to turn into pony-spam)

It was short....then again, pissed off/evil Fluttershy was absolutely hilarious, just for how out of character she's being. Hell, it might even show another side of Fluttershy than the kind gentle pony we know and love.

That being said, I wish it was a two parter. It just felt too cramped for the story it was telling...it was a rather interesting Aesop though, very different from what I was thinking was going to happen.

To repeat what I already wrote on Ponychan... Blame Hasbro for putting its foot down and forbidding (Most) multi-episode storylines.

I can understand Hasbro, actually - when I was in the ostensibly targeted agegroup, it was fucking impossible for me to catch all the episodes of a longer storyline, and I'd consequently give up on the series in question. So their reasoning makes sense. Of course, we now have the intertubes, and Hasbro itself (Owning a decent share of The Hub) leaves the episodes up for a week after broadcasting, so it's much less of a concern now than it was in the eighties. And while season-long storyarcs are incredibly difficult to follow for the target audience, two parters are... Less so, so why even two parters are considered a (Mostly) no-go area is a little beyond me.

WHat surprises me is, een with some of the restrictions, Lauren Faust has managed to produce an amazingly good series. I'm enjoying this as much as I enjoyed Samurai Jack and Dexter's Lab back in the day. (But Samurai Jack told a better story, I will admit).

Well, Ms. Faust has also stated explicitly that apart from the abovementioned interferences, she's been given a lot more leeway than she expected (Though that didn't stop her from making Suited for Success, anyway <_<). Hence why I find it difficult to rage too much at Hasbro - by and large they've been pretty good sports. I'd expect two or three, rather than one two-parter per season, and an undercurrent of a season-long storyline would be doable without making it impossible to watch the episodes out of order, but other than that, I dare saying that they did everything right, or at the very least, not wrong.

For starters, they hired Faust & co.

I can't get mad at Hasbro because both of my parents work there. :p
Hopefully there's a DVD release, I could probably get it cheap.

Oh no, don't get me wrong, I'm hapy Hasbro isnn't being a tyrant with this. It really means the series is shining so much. Hopefully the series gets them enough sales that they give Lauren and Co. more freedomt in the future. :)

Well, Lauren set the tone for the show, and the cast and crew made it happen. I think it won't be that big a deal.

I guess I'm half the fandom. :o Hopefully the show will still be the same.

By the way, did anyone else think the last episode wasn't as good as all the others?

Crazy Fluttershy was absolutely hilarious, but it did feel like itwas a bit rushed, ESPECIALLY the ending. I feel like this episode would have been better as a two parter. I still enjoyed it though.

Yeah, if it's that important of an event it could have been done in two episodes. All of the plotlines had ways to be expanded. Crazy Fluttershy is amazing, though.

The problem with making it a two-parter is... Where to make the cut? Quitting just before things going downhill, and then making the next episode all about the downhill-ness would've been a bit silly. And there clearly wasn't much for them to do at the gala.

I think that putting it all in a single episode made sense. Notably, Fluttershy's breakdown in particular had been foreshadowed in previous episodes, which helped a lot in making her breakdown believable.

My favourite episodes of the season...

Mare in the Moon
Look Before You Sleep
Swarm of the Century
Winter Wrap Up
Fall Weather Friends
Suited for Success
Stare Master
The Cutie Mark Chronicles

Of these, Fall Weather Friends and Suited for Success are probably at the very top.

And the worst...

Elements of Harmony
Griffon the Brush-Off

I also have to revise my pony-affection from page one. At this point, it goes roughly

Rarity Virtually the first time I've seen a character like her. Sure, her vanity traits are ridiculously commonplace. What isn't commonplace is that she's also hard-working and caring about the appearance of others, rather than just herself. I also like her tendency towards being melodramatic, and her sarcasm
Twilight Sparkle Now her character type is pretty much genre standard. Well done, obviously, but it does cost her points, thus place #2
Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash Tied, for entirely different reasons. While Fluttershy's largely just cute (With potential for emotional imbalance), Rainbow Dash wins simply on justified boastfulness
Applejack Rainbow Dash, with 20% less coolness, and a little more common sense. Slightly.
Pinkie Pie Very fun at first, but over time, she begins to grate. This being said, I still wuv her. Just slightly less so than the others ^^ MLP:FiM is remarkable in having a main cast where you can (And I certainly do) like every single one of them. A fairly unusual feat.
