my whining session

Postby Mikoyan-Guryevich » Fri Aug 13, 2010 5:25 pm

Ok, after several months of watching this in the RP threads, I have finally decided that enough is enough.

My problem is with people making 'tag' posts in threads. To me it seems an utterly pointless exercize because 90% of the time, the posts remain as they are. What ever reason the poster decided to 'tag' the thread has obviously been forgotten. Not to mention that if they are ever changed, they are likely to be buried.

So now, I am sick of people wasting their time and everyone else's time by making these posts. Are they spam, or are they allowed? Or am I allowed to ask people not tag my threads, both in and out of the RP forums?

It's one of my grievances, too. Thank you for the opportunity to air it. Yes, indeed,

TAGGING IS SPAM.

The One-Stop Rules Shop says it all:

*Tag*ing: Creating a post whose sole content was *tag* was a useful search tool on the old forums. No more. Now that we have the "thread subscription" feature (it's in your Profile and a menu option on every thread), there is no further need for *tag* posts. Excessive use of Tags is considered spam.

If any rules-lawyer wants to argue with you that one measly little tag isn't "excessive", rules-lawyer them back by pointing to this as a mod ruling.

It is spam. You may ask them to stop. You may ask mods to remove spam from your RPs. If it's me, I'll probably whinge about the extra work, but I'll do it anyway, because YOU ARE RIGHT.

Thanks so much for that, and thanks for the clarification.

YOU ARE RIGHT.

Can I put that in my signature? :)

Sorry if I'm spamming, but I think the main problem is that people are unaware of that feature and how to use it, people like me for example. :(

There's like 8 things wrong with this post.

If this is spamming, I'm sorry.

My question is do people actually subscribe to threads instead of tagging them? Because, to be honest, I've always found it easier to just bookmark them, that way they don't get mixed up with threads I've posted in, and threads I haven't posted in. It's always confused me why mods never mention the bookmark option when dealing with the *tag* issue.

People should know about the "subscribe" option because it's in the rules.

I know it's a bit much to expect people to take the whole lot in all at once, but they are stickied, they do get mentioned quite often in this forum and there's nothing wrong with people pointing details of them out to new players.

This thread may also wake up some folk to the existence of the "don't tag" one.

I didn't mention bookmarking because I thought it was one of those things people would know about without being told. I'm so cyber-challenged that I figure, if someone like me knows about it, everyone must.

(Also, probably, because I don't use it for threads, since I've already got too much stuff bookmarked already ... My name is Ard, and I'm a clutterholic :p )
