[Q] A Dispute Settling Thread?

Postby Eclius » Mon Jun 27, 2016 5:26 pm

I've been noticing a lot of disputes recently and many were due to misunderstanding. Is there an official place for things to be settled via negotiation or mediation and not arbitration?

Since moderators are limited in numbers just like judges in real life, I personally think, that, some problems can be discussed, which ends up with both parties happy rather than with one party being deleted, comes back with another account, sends nasty messages to moderators and other party and continue this endless cycle, maybe some small problems can be discussed rather than being tried like a trial

Disputes are best handled via Telegram politely and in good faith between the players involved. If the dispute involves potentially actionable material, you should report it here (in the Moderation board) if it takes place on the forum or via a Getting Help Request if it is gameside. If you are unable to see/speak to a player without it leading to conflict, I would suggest utilizing your Foe List to essentialy "ignore" them (it hides their posts unless you opt to view them) and mirroring this action gameside by adding them to your Telegram Ignore List.

Beyond this, if it is a minor dispute (typically involving a roleplay), you might consider contacting a Mentor. If a Mentor has the time (as they are not required to do this; it is up to players to settle their own disputes and adhere to the rules on all sides, as if it escalates to rule-violating behavior Moderation will become involved), they may provide assistance in deescalation and advice to the players involved if welcomed. Further, keep in mind that Mentors do not have powers to act as Moderators - they cannot warn or ban players, they cannot lock threads, etc. - and if they suspect a dispute may involve rule breaking content, they are likely to simply direct you to Moderation/GHR and/or suggest you utilize your Foe List.

Make sense, thanks.
