[Discussion] What Is Trolling?

It is a question that I don't think is asked often enough and has rarely been given a satisfactory answer. Being a racist is not trolling, according to the site rules, but provoking people and baiting them into an angry rule-breaking response is. Hence:

According to the Mods, you can be as inflammatory as you want but if you don't call anyone a rude word, you can get away with pretty overt racism and trolling. As the above was a pretty clear cut case, I can only conclude that the Mods in question agree with TNF about how evil Muslims are and that's why they won't do anything about it. Or they just have it in for me.

I would like to know if this form of moderator favoritism is common and has happened before so has anyone else here had such experiences with the Mods in the past?
