I am asking because the poster says he identifies as a Colt pistol. It is his sig, I understand, but I was under the impression that saying stuff like that was trolling transgender people, of which we have a sizable group on NS. From that particular poster? Not that I can think of. But it's something that indeed crops up in the Transgender thread every so often.

Also, if this is better suited for the signature related issues thread, it can be moved there. I just wasn't entirely certain if a thread in Moderation was the thing to do for reports of possible sig trolling or if a GHR was better.

It is definitely a bit of a sticky grey area. I mean on one hand, you have users like USS Monitor who have had variations on "I am a ship, please use appropriate pronouns" where the intent is clearly non-malicious. In this particular instance, we have a user with a decent warning history, but nothing in that record jumping out as transgender trolling. May hafta thrash this one out with the hive mind since it is so firmly in the "Is it or isn't it?" grey zone.

Very well. I brought it up because of past rulings in the transgender thread with people doing similar things there and the whole ''attack helicopter'' meme. No rush, whatever you guys decide it's fine.

For example, if my sig said that 'I identify as an Evil Clown', I think we all would know that my intent is to be silly. We'd know that because that's what I always do, and I've never intentionally offended anyone. So I think the core question is whether his intent was to offend/mock transgender people, or just being silly. I'm going to take a closer look at this guy and see if I can form an opinion on that.

That's not quite what Euroslavia said. He said if you keep it, punishment MAY occur. There will have to be a conversation among the mods about the intent of your sig statement, and whether it rises to the level of trolling. Euroslavia is being pretty magnanimous by giving you an out before we come to a decision. It's pretty rare.
You don't have to take it. You can wait until we reach a decision and see what happens when our conversation is over.

My personal opinion is that if your intent is to be comical, you should consider changing it to something else amusing that can't be interpreted as mocking anybody.
