I acknowledge that the (to be fair, entertaining once you get past the rating) video was inappropriate for that thread, and I apologise for any mental anguish incurred. This is not an appeal, or any other attempt to claim innocence - I'm not (though personally I do think it was unnecessary to actually prevent me from posting).

You don't have to agree with the ban, but fwiw, it's entirely in keeping with years of precedent. You post naughty links/vids, you get banned. You haven't done much that way, the ban is relatively short. Your history is loaded with warnings, that ban may be upgraded to a deletion. Its simply how the system works. It's designed to let you know just how seriously we take the content guidelines - and since it seems you're now well aware, problem solved.

I'm not going to pretend that I'm an expert on modding, or even a mod anywhere - I'm not, nor have I ever been. But it seems to me that a ban is only effective if a poster is serially posting badly, in which case stopping them also stops the problem, or if they're clearly all het up about something and need time to calm down. I personally had no plans to post much else anyway, so the ban only had as much effect as a warning (and seeing the modtext is damn scary all by itself) since I didn't post further in either case. This is not me judging you. I am not an expert.

No, it's more than that. It's an escalation. If we hit you with red text repeatedly and no bans, it'd be like the mall cop shouting "Stop! Or I'll yell Stop again!" Doesn't carry any weight. If you're banned for 24 hours, you become aware that Actions Have Consequences ... and the next time it's 3 days, then 7 days, then DEAT. A lot of people learn from that. Others are just here to troll or spam, and don't care how many times we delete them ... which is why we have Delete On Sight.

Proportionate response to the crime. That's what it's all about.

In my case, there was no escalation at all - I was simply banned with no opportunity to stop of my own accord. Which, by the way, I would have done - I posted in good faith that warning of inappropriate content first would be sufficient to prevent rulebreaking, something I was clearly mistaken about (I thought the obscenity listing in OSRS only referred to content in the post itself, but that's another story). Simply rapping me on the nose would have done it, and previous to this I had a spotless record so there was no reason to think it wouldn't.

Not that kind of escalation. An escalation of moderator action. If your history shows that you have been warned for a rule violation in the past, then on the next offense, you are likely to receive a short ban. If in the future, you break a rule, we may respond with the next incremental step; a longer ban. And if some time after that you break a rule, we may delete your nation. We take into account prior history when deciding the appropriate level of moderator response.

To my knowledge, I have never received an official Mod warning, hence my belief that there was no escalation. Incidentally, does the age of each offence factor in, too? Like, if I'm still around in five years and I've kept my nose clean, does making another mistake still count as a "second offence"?

It depends on the severity of the offense, tbh. If it's minor, it's not likely to be a big deal at all. If it's major, well, anything major is looked at fairly seriously. Posting porn or shock pictures for example will get you deleted regardless of your record.
