Basically suggested I should jump off of a high vantage point without any safety equipment, killing myself in the process.

It's honestly not that big of a deal, because people say mean things to me a lot, but implying that I should die seems to cross a line, especially when I was obviously joking.

No, I believer they were saying anyone who honestly believed that should, as hyperbole. Clearly, you were joking, and clearly, it was not directed at you specifically.
