REPORT: A Missing User: Divair

Postby Altito Asmoro » Mon Mar 17, 2014 8:22 am

So yeah...I am just opening my telegram box, and I noticed that Divair is now an ex-nation. Any explanation?

To avoid any misunderstandings over this - and this is one of those cases where we're more than happy to be transparent - the immediate trigger for Divair's deletion was not the above (though it hardly helped), but rather his repeated advertising of a competing game (not another discussion forum, which would be legal, but another nation simulation game) both in the forums and via attempted TG recruitment. This runs counter to long-standing policy.

We have also received complaints over those TGs from other players, forcing us to act.

For further clarity, he is not DOS.

For even further clarity, this thread is not for discussion of this deletion; this simply seems the best place to make this point given the potential for misunderstanding over the nature of the quoted post.

we told you dog, we told you about that ban list idea

(can we use this as a thread for the discussion of this deletion, since arch said the other wasn't? as far as i know this is his first offence related to that, so it seems really extreme to skip a warning anda ban and go straight to deletion)

Like others stated, he advertised a very rubbish competing game that should have been trashed years ago, Project Terra. He occasionally on his Divair2 advertised in Tofuline, if memory serves me.

One warning and then straight to DEAT? That's a little heavy-handed.

I think it was the part he kept on doing TG advertisements that annoyed A WHOLE LOT of players, and he advertised plenty of times. Once too many.

Still, I was under the impression that if someone gets warned for something and continues to do it, you give them another warning or short ban to reinforce the point rather than just straight up deleting a poster with a pretty damn clean record. Evidently I was mistaken.

I don't think that's in dispute, or whether or not Divair should have been punished. I think the only question is the severity of the punishment.

Mhmmm. A temporary ban for, a day or three would have taught the lesson, but a perma ban, I agree is a bit much. He also was sarcastic to Violet, although it probably had little effect, however in other threads I saw him being rather rude towards some players.

Exactly. I'm not here to debate what should and shouldn't be allowed, I'm just wondering about how infringements are responded to.

If rudeness and sarcasm were bannable offences, this would be a pretty deserted forum.

Perhaps instead of straight to DEAT, what about a seven day ban/deletion?

The punishment is also pretty severe for those of us in his former region.

Altito Asmoro, you may not have seen this new announcement.

As you will see, discussion of specific moderation incidents should "(n)ot be replied to except by moderators and posters who are either (a) directly involved in the incident, or (b) can provide specific, relevant additional information about it. You may also reply to a report thread to appeal a ruling, if it affected you".

The posts Kelinfort quoted explain the circumstances of Divair's deletion.

Folks, as we are all still getting used to the new system, let's treat this as a learning thread: is it a Report or a Discussion?

As it concerns a specific Moderation decision, it's a Report.

That being so, please don't post in this thread unless you have specific, relevant and additional information. I'll add the word "Report" to the title to make that clear.

Altito Asmoro's initial confusion about what had happened to Divair may spark some thoughts suitable for this Discussion thread, which includes thoughts on informing individuals/other players about bans. It was closed briefly to deal with a DoS spammer, but Arch will reopen it as soon as possible.

It's worth clarifying that's one prior warning for that type of offence.

To give an example, a first flaming offence would normally get a player a warning. However, if that player has an extensive record of trolling, spamming, griefing etc. then they may well be banned or deleted. Similar circumstances apply here.

Not that you are aware of, in any case. We have the full record of things on our end, and no, these are not records that are open to public scrutiny. This did not come as a 'bolt from the blue', and he was aware that his actions could lead to less than pleasant results.

The player himself is not 'missing'. You can reach him via his puppet, Divair2, as others have pointed out. Thank you.
