I know this has been asked before, but not in a year or so as far as I can tell so...

Any change of a "refoundednations" type shard? :P

Hmm. Not fixed for me, still not WA.

I applied to join the WA, I got the requisite emails, I hit the link, and it says I'm in, yet ... I'm not. That needs fixin'

You were listed in the WA as a member, but on your nation you were not listed as a member. So I removed the erroneous entry in the WA. This is separate from your current desire to actually join the WA, and apparently failing to do so.

Please discard all the WA emails you have. Click the button to join the WA, you should receive a new email immediately. Use the link in that one to join. If that fails, please let me know the error message you got (if any) and the exact time you tried it so I can peruse the server log to see what happened.

EDIT: I see you managed to join the WA this time. Enjoy!

Ran a check again after I noticed the second kingdom of greece in TNP. The WA ejection bug should probably get fixed sometime :P

The following nations listed in http://www.nationstates.net/cgi-bin/api ... /q=members are not WA nations:

WA member roster updated for those nations. And I agree, this should be fixed sooner than later.

Any chance of a WA members shard for regions?

It really is not difficult to get the list of all WA nations, the list of nations in a region, and cross reference them.

The game does not store such a list anywhere, so if the game provided the api, it would just be doing the two fetches and cross referencing for you.

Currently all API requests are considered equal. This API request would be (roughly speaking) twice as expensive for the site to perform.

If you want someone to do the cross-referencing for you, you can ask NS++. I can't guarantee it'll always be accurate, and it will in fact always be at least 28 seconds out of date, but it will certainly take care of that cross-referencing for you.

I already extracted them by giving any nation marked "WA Member" or "WA Delegate" a value of one and adding up the numbers.

The reason I ask is for manual recruitment purposes, by importing a list to your dossier and sending out a telegram template. Just thought it'd make recruitment easier since there's a 2500 nation limit and not all WA Members can be in your dossier at once. Importing individual regions, however, or just one or two regions, gives you more flexibility and easy access, for those that don't know how to script.

Refactoring has introduced some new stats, such as GDP and average incomes. These will be added to the API shortly, but if you have any special requests, now is the time!

Would this affect the existing census score numbers in the shards?

Also, I'm assuming this means that we'll be seeing these new stats in the world and regional censuses in the near future?

Edit: Also how about a "WA Members" shard for regions along with the already existing members shard?

Looks like you got a early jump on the new API by converting TAX from integer to decimal overnight. Um, thanks.

Just had a brain fart...

It would be nice is NS produced a versioned XML Schema that went with the feed. That way, users of the feed would not be caught by surprise when things like data types changed unexpectedly.

Just a thought...

The API is not supposed to change data type unexpectedly, at least without changing version number, but honestly I didn't think integer to float would trouble anybody. Sorry if this is not the case.

Yes and yes. A great many World Census stats are affected. In most cases, the changes should be fairly mild, at least for the majority of nations, but there are a couple of cases where the underlying metric has changed significantly.

Main example: "Tourism." This used to be problematic because nations could be described as having a thriving Tourism industry on their nation page while scoring very negatively in "Analysis: Tourism," because the former measured the size of the Tourism industry and the latter took that number and added some other factors to it, chiefly environment. This is now standardized, so that the size of the Tourism industry already takes the environment into consideration. But it places far less weight on the environment than the old "Analysis: Tourism" score did, which will probably lead to lower average scores globally.

I don't add anything to the Daily Dumps unless I think almost everyone wants it. In the case of GDP, this is probably true. Not sure about the other stuff.

I don't mind so much about the income stuff but would definitely like to see the GDP on there.

Rough logic could probably get that sort of info:
Code: Select all
<EVENT>
<TIMESTAMP>1421954459</TIMESTAMP>
<TEXT>@@votinir@@ altered its national flag.</TEXT>
</EVENT>
<EVENT>
<TIMESTAMP>1421954447</TIMESTAMP>
<TEXT>
@@votinir@@ relocated from %%lazarus%% to %%nugut%%.
</TEXT>

Simply subtract the timestamp for the relocation from that of the current timestamp and you have the elapsed time

True, you will need to trawl through each nations happenings to obtain the "relocated" value, and the dataset may not go back that far

You could always us the NSDossier facility - apparently I moved to The Blood Cave sometime between 24th and 31st March 2012!

Once you have that data a simple calculation should suffice

I'd like to request a tiny bit of information about a how a nation's tax is distributed.
In the nation description, it can say "The average income tax rate is 97.9%" (at 100% the "average" is removed"), it can be followed by "and even higher for the wealthy", but it can also say "Citizens pay a flat income tax of 16.1%" or "Income tax is unheard of".
The first two cases (average and 100%) I can figure out from the API, as well as the last one (0%), but the two others I don't know how to determine for certain.

Would it be possible to add something to the API about whether a nation has a progressive or flat tax rate?

EDIT: Also, is there a possibility to get access to "Trend" values (how your CR, Econ and PF have changed) for nations, even if it is only the last 50 or so?

Finally, when can we expect the values from the refactor to be added to the API (GDP, average income, state-owned industry)?

Unfortunately this broke NSDroid as well, for nations with a float tax rate. Easy fix, though.

Sorry for triple-posting, but I found an issue with the text of (at least) one issue result.
It says "@@PL(ANIMAL)@@ are considered a delicacy". Shouldn't @@PL(ANIMAL)@@ have been parsed to the national animal (plural) in the text?
EDIT: Also in "the government funds large training centres to turn @@PL(ANIMAL)@@ into functioning members of society".
