Add regions what's happening to reports

Postby Coffee and Crack » Sat Mar 06, 2010 9:16 am

Maybe I'm doing it wrong, but when I add a region to my Dossier, I don't see anything reports wise.

I don't think you do, you might but most of my dossier is pretty small inactive nations. But I would support this idea

In reports there are little boxes that have to do with the report settings. Turn all of them on and see what happens.

When regions being added to dossiers was discussed originally, a load of raiders said it'd give defenders an unfair advantage if the regions happenings were added to your reports - so they weren't.

Honestly, I think defenders have a solid idea of whats going on in regions already without the Dossier. More information is more information, how people make use of it is their own concern.

It seems unfair to the rest of the population that raiders and defenders have such a strong voice in minor functionality updates.

Oh, I'd love to have it included in the reports, it was raiders who were objecting to it.

It is included in reports (if you enable the checkbox at the top of the Reports page), and is working here.

Adding regions to dossiers is getting closer and closer to adding a "defend" button, adding those regions to reports is the last thing we need.

I'm sorry if I fail to understand how this will completely ruin raiding. I'd just rather have this as an NS feature, instead of having to write my own which will require multiple page requests.

It won't "ruin" raiding on its own, but there have been several steps put in place that, by accident or design, have made raiding harder. This continues that process because it makes it even easier for defenders to work out which regions have been invaded, the report function would tell defenders that there was an influx of nations, a change in the delegacy, etc etc. This increases the likelihood that enough defenders will pile into a region in time to stop raiders taking it.

if they don't see the delegacy change it would be a fail on their part for not having the delegate dossiered...

raiders operate by stealth, moving in before anyone can react, minutes sometimes second before an update. A well oiled defender group can stop these, the dossier would tip the balance because they would just go through and add all the founderless regions to their dossiers and hit generate report all night, instead of scanning the world for invasions which takes more work and gives raiders more time and a better chance of not being seen.

I think that's the point.

I just had a conversation with coffee and crack on MSN. He says he's going to code a tool that would not only track regional happenings of ALL founderless regions, but watch for changes in endorsements.

Is this illegal?

Only if said code sends requests too often, unless the rules change. The thing I saw said scripts just can't move, create, endorse, message nations. CC is a raider so I can't see why him having this tool is bad... he won't stop raids so who cares if he knows...

I still say all scripts should be banned as to not turn it into something we all have to start doing

I'm honestly beginning to agree. I don't have any clue on how to do scripts like that and I doubt that I ever will, which really limits my ability in the actual game--especially if something like this was created.

In general I agree that scripts should not give significant, exclusive advantages to some people over others. However, some scripts provide very useful services to all interested players via third-party sites, so I would not want to ban them all. Also, scripts are impossible to distinguish from regular site visitors, should they choose to hide themselves, so we cannot get rid of them that easily. The only really effective way to combat a script that is giving some people an unfair advantage is for us to make that advantage available to everyone.
