Endorsement Order

Postby Frattastan II » Thu Dec 01, 2016 2:59 pm

Endorsements received used to be in chronological order (from oldest to most recent). That's no longer the case.
When did it happen, and what determines the current order?

To chime in on this, it would be really nice if we could get it back to that order, or have some way to check original endorsement order. Pretty sure this is a pretty bipartisan GP issue that we'd all agree on :P

Bipartisan indeed. The older order was very useful, for both r/d and, so I hear, as delegate of large regions. One major use is in endorsing people who've endorsed You back, when they're no longer in your happenings. A tool could track that for you too, but I'm fairly certain that the general goal is to limit the need for tools, not increas it :P

It's also just generally quite nice to be able to see at a glance the nations who first endorsed you.

Yeah, this was useful. I had used it several times to check if new nations had endorsed me.

Yes, there are other ways, but they're all more of a mess. This was fast, easy, and useful for raiders, defenders, natives, GCR delegate, and everyone else alike. Unless there's a reason why it's *better* the new way (seemingly random?), I think we'd all prefer it go back to being ordered by most recent to endorse.

Just wanted to confirm that having endorsements in chronological order was very useful as a Sinker Delegate. Having them out of chronological order makes it a lot more difficult to track who recently endorsed you so you can endorse them in return. Sure, you can look at your national happenings if the endorsements were in the previous week, but it was still a lot easier to take a quick glance at your endorsements and see the most recent at the end.

I agree, I preferred the oldest-newest order much more over the randomized one.
I don't really see a point in randomizing it, it was perfectly fine before

Any chance we could get an Admin to at least glance this way? Given the substantivity of the change, and the lack of its announcement, there's some understandable frustrations across the ranks.

Is it perhaps sorted by "nation ID" now?

I had a (summary) look at that before posting - it's not sorted by nation ID.
(The order also seems to change now and then, so it may not be sorted by anything).

The change affects nations with more than 50 endorsements. It's a side-effect of a performance enhancement that reduced the load time of nation pages with lots of endos. (By a lot: the load time for Plembobria dropped by 90%.)

I hadn't noticed the loss of chronological sort order but will take a look to see whether that can be restored.
