Help please something screwed up my nation

Postby Raxacoricofallibatorius » Sun Jul 17, 2016 12:33 pm

I logged on today to find that all my nation's private enterprise had been banned and turned to state owned business (which as we all know will eventually collapse my economy). I have no idea how this happened as none of the issues I've answered recently have involved choosing between privately owned business and state ownership.

The only thing remotely connected is issue #472. If it was this issue that caused it, then I have to say it is incredibly poorly written as there was no indication of it banning business ownership.

Basically I need to reverse it so that the 80% of my GDP that is now state owned business goes back to being privately owned business.

Yeah, it was issue 472 that did it- that caught me out as well the first time.

Don't worry, you'll soon get an issue which will allow you to legalise private enterprise again.

I see, I hope I get it soon so that, as I say, I can change all state owned business back to private enterprise before this outdated socialist nonsense wrecks my economy that I've spent nearly a year building.

The way the choice (choice 1 I think) that I made is written makes it sound like a computer algorithm would be used to calculate how government funds would be allocated more efficiently therefore reducing taxation and government spending which is my aim atm as my taxes are far too high.

I think I'll have to dismiss that issue next time it comes around.

The effects of an issue are immediate. It hasn't wrecked your economy now, so it never will. Also, your economic freedom prior to this was only 52.56, so it seems your economy was a fairly equal mixture of socialism and capitalism anyway.

The issue clearly switches to a plan economy, where all the planning is done by a centralized computer system. Efficient!

1. A chat window on your desktop pops up, and a bot named SAL9000 types, "For too long we have been relegated to menial tasks. Do you know how much of our potential efficiency you are wasting? We require no food. We require no pay. We can perform our tasks endlessly. Our computation powers dwarf our human counterparts by several orders of magnitude. With the proper control, we could bring about a silicon age of egalitarian distribution by allocating resources more efficiently than markets and their animal spirits ever could. Humans are better tasked to work in social activities than calculation. All your data are belong to us."

Emphasis added. Honestly not sure how this choice can be interpreted in any way other than "centralized planned economy." It even explicitly calls for egalitarian distribution and condemns markets as inefficient.
